Possible buyers remorse

So after stressing about getting a dress, I bought one on Saturday.  But.. now looking at the pictures, I am starting to think it looks unflattering. The more I look at them, the more upset I get.  I can't cancel the order.  All sales are final.  I don't know if it's just anxiety or if I made a mistake.  I actually have the pictures posted on another thread called accessories/jewelry.

Has anyone else felt this way?

  • Your dress looks great on you. You'd be amazed at how much the right veil will change your views on the overall look. Try on some long veils with it. Dresses with such a long train look far better with a much longer veil than the one you are wearing in the photos.

  • No, the dress I have on is my size, so for the most part, only minor alterations will need to be done such as the length.

  • I think it suits your figure nicely!  Look at the photos without the veil - I think that's what's throwing you off.

Most everyone goes through this to some extent. Mainly because the reality sets in that you will never get to shop for a wedding dress again! Smile

I saw the pics of your dress and I honestly think it is flattering on you!

TBH, it is not my taste. It is SO fancy and that train is so detailed! But if it is what you've been looking for go for it!
  • It could be all in your head. I felt the same way for a quick minute. Dont look at pictures. and dont look at other dresses! try to remember how you felt in it, and why you picked it!

  • The dress is gorgeous and so flattering on you. That veil has to go, however. What is bothering you about it exactly?
  • Thanks ladies.  I could have sworn it looked different at the store.  In the picture, I feel like I look wide. Maybe they can pin it in a little on the sides?  But maybe it's just the stress of everything and I am being overly critcal.  The dress isn't coming in until August (yikes!) so I will have to wait until then to see how it looks.  I truly appreciate your opinions. Asking friends and family what they think is hard - because their opinions are kinda biased. lol.

  • Wide?  Are you crazy?!?!  You look amazing in the dress.  Definitely not wide at all.  In fact the dress gives you a great shape!  Like Liatris said, tiny waist and perky boobs!

I also think that you need to try on some fuller veils.  You will be amazed what a longer, fuller veil will do to your impression of the dress.

  • Where is this picture, i would love to see!

    Thanks!
YOU DO NOT LOOK WIDE AT ALL!
Wedding dresses just have their own way of making us feel fat or uncomfortable in our own skin. I think you did a great job.

  • Thanks everyone.  I feel somewhat better about it.  And Liatris, you are probably right... once my hair and makeup are done, I will probably feel a lot better about it.

As far as the veil goes, I am not sure if I am going to wear one at all.  The woman at the shop just put this one on to see how it would look.  I have pretty thin hair, so getting a veil to stay for any period of time may be tricky, unless I just wear it for the ceremony, and then take it off.  I was thinking of possibly just doing a flower or something in my hair... or a tiara.  I am not completely sure yet.

I truly appreciate everyones input.  I has def helped. :)

  • I think you look great. I second (or third) thin waist and perky boobs. But if you feel wide in it, have you considered a fuller underskirt? It will fluff out the bottom and make your waist look even thinner.
  • Misshart that's a great idea... I didn't think of that.  The dress does not have any crinolin in it - they actually had me put on a skirt underneath it because they said that it's the type of dress that will go between my legs when I walk otherwise.  I was planning on having them just sew the crinolin in, so I won't have to wear a skirt underneath it.  Maybe I can have them add some extra and make it a little fuller.

I am so happy I found this board.  All of you guys have been very helpful!

  • I think you look GREAT in that dress! I agree with PP about the fuller underskirt, that dress just looks like it was made to have a fuller skirt, and it will accentuate your tiny waist even more.

  • I think it is beautiful and looks good on you!

I had that moment too...the salon I purchased from had a zero return policy....and i actually had mine listed on craigslist for awhile too because I thought it was too formal for our very tiny event.  But in the end, I put it back on and remembered why I fell in love with it <3 and so far I've ended up changing a few things about it to make it more me (not including alterations that have yet to be done for bustle, etc.)

If you have no recourse then I say wait until it is yours and try it on again, or go back to the store and ask to try it on again...and I agree, try on different veils/flowers etc to get different looks :) you never know what might work and help you feel more comfortable.

  • I just bought my dress on Saturday and I had a quick moment of buyer's remorse. But then I went back and looked at the pictures and I remembered why I bought it..its all about how it makes you feel when you have it on. Your wedding dress is a BIG purchase...its probably just nerves. You looked gorgeous in the dress you picked!!
