Fashion-clueless bride needs help with MOH dress...please!

I am completely clueless about fashion, but I want my bridal party to be comfortable, happy, and look good in what they wear for my wedding.

However, I'm having a problem achieving that goal with my MOH. :(

She's about 5'9", weighs about 90 pounds (so she's a double zero or smaller) and is pretty much flat-chested. (((Before anyone jumps on my ass: I have zero issue with her appearance. She's beautiful and I want her to shine! )))

The issue is that neither of us know what style of dress she should wear! Under any other circumstances she would be able to find something amazing, but she never wears dresses so she's just about as clueless as I am.  On top of that, because she's so tiny, "real" bridesmaid dresses literally fall off of her. >_<

So...any ideas of what styles would look good on her body type? And...where would be a good place to look for such styles?

I would try other places like Ann Taylor Loft and White House, Black Market (I think both carry size 00) for some non-BM dresses that still look fine for a WP member. Maybe the two of you can go shopping and she can try on a bunch of different styles and see what works best for her.

If she doesn't have much of a chest, I would probably skip strapless since they may just fall down on her. What about spaghetti strap, halter, one-shoulder, etc? If she is very slim she could wear something more form-fitting and pull it off if she's comfortable in it.

Are you just having an MOH or is she just wearing a different dress from the rest of the girls?

  • I have my MOH and one bridesmaid (my sisters), but I could care less if the styles match so long as the color is right, and they both have samples of what I'd like. :)

Your point about straps is valid!

We tried to go and try on dresses but nothing seemed to be in a size smaller than 5, which I was curious if anyone had suggestions for where to look for a double zero. I'll see if we have the stores you suggested in our area!

  • Yeah I think more stores are starting to carry size 00. If nothing else, she might have to buy a dress slightly big and get it altered to fit. Have you checked DB? I dont know what size they go down to.

I think if I were you i would just go to Davids bridal or something like that and have her try on a ton of different dresses. At the shop they will have like clips so she can make the dresses tighter to see how it will fit if it needs to be altered.
I think I would start there at least. Theres a ton of different styles and stuff you can get an Idea of what looks good and then maybe you can order something online from a nother store or something that carrys a small size?
  • I know that J Crew has bridesmaid dresses that go down to a size 0.  They've also got a TON of options regarding neckline/color/length.  It's not a 00, but it may be somewhere to start. :)

I've suggested J. Crew and WHBM to my BMs and MoH.  I've found that WHBM tends to run at least a size, if not two large for me, but that may just be me and my slightly dowdy taste. :)

David's Bridal might be a great option for her to start shopping because they have a big variety of styles for her to try on (and an extensive palette of colors to choose from!)  It sounds like your intention is for her to pick out whatever dress she wants so you should have no worries.  Once she tries on different styles there will likely be a clear cut "winner" and then it can be altered to fit her perfectly.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

I'm not nearly as thin as your friend, but I've been tall and skinny with zero boobs my entire life. PPs made great suggestions the best thing to do really is to go try on stuff to see what looks good. I've found that "softer" fabrics look nicer, and anything with detail along the neckline is flattering. Oh and hair up or down makes a difference too. Good luck and have fun!
