No Idea What to Do With My Hair

A while ago I cut my hair off for Locks of Love and decided I liked it short so I've been keeping it probably around ear length for a couple years. As soon as I got engaged I started trying to grow it out so I could have it long again for the wedding, but it grows slowly and I didn't have a ton of time to begin with (got engaged in November, getting married in August). My stylist advised me to take prenatal vitamins to get it to grow faster and I've been using leave in conditioners to give it strength and keep it from splitting, but even so I'm not sure I'll quite get to shoulder length by the wedding. Right now I can get it into a stubby little pony tail that is really only practical for working out, not exactly a show stopping look.

What should I do with it? We're having an pretty informal, but still traditional, outdoor wedding. I'd like to do something elegant, but not too formal. I don't want to do extensions and it's a destination wedding so I can't do any trial runs with my stylist.

Anyone have ideas?

  • If its not updo ready by wedding time, you should have a backup plan for the short length. Doing nothing and just adding some bling or flowers to it would be fine. Are you wearing a veil for the ceremony? Thats extra addage too. Visit your local salons and play with some hair do's that they recommend for short hair.
  • I have sort of the same problem, I have a short a-line bob, my wedding isn't until Aug 2011 but the awkward growing out stages kill me!

I'm planning on just growing it a tiny bit and doing what I call a 1/3 up, not quite half up, and then using a very pretty pin or something in the back. I feel simple is best. Since, like you...there's no way to have enough have for a real up do.

Oh! Just remembered, a few years ago at my sister's wedding I had pretty short hair and I didn't want anyone to touch it, but her hairdresser was doing such a great job on everyone else's hair I had her do mine. So last minute, she twisted it up in the back in small pieces, it was very 'hip' but stayed great and looked wonderful in pictures!

  • I am planning on a half up/half down look. My hair rests just above my shoulders and the wedding is in November. I'm letting it grow as much as it can between now and then.
  • This website has some pics that might give you a couple ideas.  A few of the styles were down on shorter hair.  If you choose a specific picture, it tells you the ideal hair length.

oof. This is a toughie. Have you tried some hot oil treatments? I hear that also helps hair grow faster. I don't know how important this is to you, so I'd have to ask if you would consider a wig if you simply can't meet the length you'd like? I work with someone who uses them as accessories and is always changing it up... it's pretty awesome actually.

PS missCarol's - your hair photo is out of this world cute!
