David's Bridal fitting this weekend...

Hey - I need some advice.  I have my fitting this weekend (at David's) and I haven't actually bought my bra/slip that I plan on wearing yet.  I had thought I'd just buy them there when I went in, but I've been reading a few things online that make it sound like it might be problematic. Should I try to buy them before hand?  I'm just a little skeptical about buying the slip without having the dress because I know slip fullness can effect the length of the dress. Does anyone have any experience with this?  Thoughts?

  • i would definitely buy the bra undergarments prior to..so you know that you have the correct size.. and not just what they try to fit u into.. the underslip may be harder if you dont know which one will be best for your dress

  • I would purchase a few different bras to see which one would work the best with your dress and also which is the most comfortable.  Just leave the tags on so you can return the ones that do not work out.

As for the slip, this is something that can be purchased at the store, if you need one at all.

I got my bra online after trying to work with the DB one I got- it just didn't fit right and I hated that I needed help getting into my own bra! I found a front-closure, low-back one on Amazon for half the price and went with that one. However, I kept the slip that I bought at DB and it made my dress wonderfully full! I think you can wait on the petticoat, no problem, because the ones they have available were perfectly fine, but the bra you should figure out. I had my first fitting with the DB bra I wound up returning and it didn't affect my alterations (I had three total fittings.)

I'm not using DB, but I went to my first fitting last weekend and was nervous because I couldn't find a bra in advance that would work. It turned out it wasn't that big a deal, because the seamstress suggested that I either go without one or find a low low back bustier. She isn't going to do anything with the top until the next fitting after she takes in the bodice. The strapless bra I brought that I thought would work, definately did not and she said most normal wouldnt so I'm glad I didnt spend the $$ without talking to her about what would or wouldnt work, since it is difficult to tell without the dress with you. So if you are not sure what will even work, talk to the seamstress and she can probably work on another area while you look for something.
  • I'm not getting my fittings done at DB, but the two friends that I went to fitting appointments with both just bought what they needed at that appointment. Like you siad, they hadn't decided on how full they wanted the skirts until they got there and they wanted to seamstress's advice on what kind of bra to buy. One had both items in stock and the other tried on what they had out for people to borrow and ordered what she needed that day.
