Does my proposed wedding dress look okay with the proposed wedding party attire?

Hi ladies. I haven't posted much here because I've been so busy in real life. We are getting married over Memorial Day weekend. Our ceremony is outside (in the garden area of a bed and breakfast) and our reception is inside (in a banquet hall of that same location/bed and breakfast).

Our color are mainly black and white, with a pop of red. We are going for a less than traditional/slightly offbeat vibe. My fiance and his groomsmen have a Hives theme going on (the band from Sweden)-- they are going to dress in black and white suits, with my fiance standing out by wearing a black jacket, or a red tie, or something. It's not totally planned out yet but it's his idea and I'm fine with it. Here's a pic of his general inspiration, I think:

I am thinking of this dress for my bridesmaids:

So as you can see, we have kind of a little rock and roll/50's theme going. The hard part is my dress, as I seem to like either very fancy (lace), or really offbeat, like red or black and white, but my options are pretty limited to an empire waist, free-flowing dress because I'm pregnant. :) If the dress was entirely white I was thinking of accessoring it with black (and probably carrying red flowers).  However, the dress I've found that looks the best on me is this one:

As you can see, it's pretty traditional and would be hard to do much with, except I was thinking of adding black beads into the design beside the white beads, and/or wear a long black necklace... still, I feel like I would be "casual-fying" the dress too much if I were to do these things.

My concern is that the wedding dress doesn't really match the wedding party attire. It's more traditional whereas theirs are more casual and fun. What do you ladies think? I can keep looking but I would like to nail down some options since it's coming up pretty fast. :) Thanks!

  • I don't think you need to add anything to your dress. I've seen others add colored beading and sashes and in my opinions (which you should take with a grain of salt) I think it makes a normally lovely dress look tacky. I think it would be adorable if you could somehow incorporate red flowers into your hair and carry red flowers with a black ribbon. You could also wear black and red heels/sandals.

I think you dress doesn't have to be "matchy matchy." You are supposed to stand out. On that note, I think the dress is lovely as is :)

  • ALSO you could incorporate a pretty pendant with a red stone. Like this:

Ooh thank you CSweaney! I can definitely just add the red and/or black accents as my jewelry and/or flowers. Thanks!
  • I think the silhouette of your dress goes really well with the BM dresses. I wouldn't change anything on the dress--just pick a modern red bouquet. Something like this would look great: http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4127/4966050912_c619c3f175_o.jpg
  • I like that bouquet! At first I was thinking, "except for the Hershey's kisses," but that could actually work because I'm from PA, near Hershey, so it could be a little nod towards home. ;) (All my family members are coming out to NM for our wedding-- I've lived here for 10 years!)
  • I definitely think you could build up the look with hair accessories and necklaces.
  • Thanks MoonlightSilver. Your bio pic is awesome! :)

I think both look just fine together. :-) I do really like the wedding dress, it's so pretty!
