Ideas for nursing bridesmaid

My MOH is due with her first baby 3 weeks before my wedding, she is planning on nursing her little one and will still be nursing at the wedding.  I want to make this as easy as possible on her, like making sure that we have time for her to nurse or pump before the ceremony so she doesn't leak.  I spent the weekend with my sisters 3 month old and just remembered how much babies spit up.  I then thought of something and I feel kind of bad thinking of it, but i think I will be happy I did.  "What if the baby spits up on MOH's dress before the ceremony or picture?"  Are hand held clothing steamers cheap, and would they work on baby spit up like that?  I'm thinking if they are not too expensive and if it would work I may just buy one to have on hand just in case.  I had thought of buying her a special hoodie or something to wear but I don't think that is a good idea because then she has to think about it and if her baby is crying and hungry and needs to burb she's not going to be thinking about her dress.  Which is why I'm trying to come up with ideas just to make sure we are covered if something happens.

Personally, I think this is overkill.  If your MOH needs to feed her baby, she will do so responsibly because, even on a regular day, she doesn't want spit up on her clothes.  If she needs to burp the baby, mothers carry burp cloths for this very reason.

I think you should ensure that she has a place to pump and/or nurse the child at your ceremony/reception, be flexible if she wants the baby with her or needs to run off and tend to him.  Your heart is in the right place - definitely - but lugging around a steamer in the off chance that the kid 1. spits up and 2. it's on a part of the dress that will be seen in pictures is too much worry.

This is what burpcloths are for.  By the time the baby is 3 weeks old, she'll have the feeding and protecting her clothing down pat.

Just have some Shout Wipes if you're that concerned.

I know that people use burp rags, but I also know that some babies really spit up alot, I think this weekend my entire family had white all over the place because my neice as some really big spit ups.  The dress is a dark purple and I want to be sure that she's not uncomfortable, I know she is a capable person but babies spit up that's why I'm looking into something to clean her dress if need be. I'm trying to cover all of my basis, and I'm making sure she has accomidations and as I said time before the ceromony to feed or pump.  I may be worring too much as you said but because I know how much some babies can spit up I could see someone even if it's not her (most likely my dad) getting somethign on their suit or dress.

Thank you so much for that about the clothing steamers.  I assumed that they were like dry cleaning.  I'm glad you mentioned that.  Yeah I'm definatly going to have some Shout wipes on hand. 

I'm very excited for her and was very happy when I found out she was due 3 weeks before the wedding. ( her DR will only let her go 1 week over) and not 3 weeks after (then she would have a greater possiblity of not being able to make it)

I agree with all PP's, they had some really good points. FWIW, my son barely spit up at all. Really only if he was very active or being bounced after eating. You may be overthinking on this one.

I was a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding 3 months after my daughter was born. I brought her with me for the morning and my mom took her during pictures. We had a small break before the ceremony for me to nurse her and then i snuck away just after dinner started and was back for the toasts. I just made sure to have my nursing shawl with me, so i didnt have to worry about my dress.

My advice is that you don't worry about it too much. It's her responsibility - just let her know you support her. But if you have flexibility in the schedule, a little break before pictures and then before the ceremony should be all she needs. Shout wipes or baby wipes which she'll have will do the job. Also, you could recommend LilyPads to her - they'll protect her from leakage.

You could recommend to your bridesmaid to check the fitting of her dress after the birth since there are so many changes in the bust area while nursing.  If the dress is tight across the bust and there are hot lights at a ceremony location, she could be more likely to leak.  Good luck!
