ordering bridesmaid dresses together?

Do the bridesmaids dresses have to be ordered together?

I've heard that they should all be ordered at the same time to ensure they're all from the same "color lot." (so they're all exactly the same color and not slightly varying shades) I have bridesmaids all over the country so I don't know to do that!

Can I just have them order whenever they want, or is this an real issue? I'd be ordering Alfred Angelo dresses in violet.

TIA!

Re: ordering bridesmaid dresses together?

  • I never would have thought about differneces in material shades.  If they are from different parts of the country they might even be distributed fom different factories or warehouses too, dependng on the company.  If you are very worried about it, then maybe you can have them measured at retailers in their area and then they can all call the store nearest you with their order and credit cards or something.  I would think though that if there are any variations in color, they would be hard to notice anyways.  My BMs all ordered their's at different times and we have had no problems whatsoever, but then again my girls are wearing black.

  • we are doing ann taylor. easy with bi coastal bridesmaids!
  • I ordered Dessy dresses through Jay's Bridal and they were all ordered at different times.  I was told that you only have to worry about the dye lots with reds or pinks.  Mine were green and they were all the same color.

  • i worked at a bridal store. We worked with dessy and other popular lines. We always told them to order at the same time. we have bms call in with their measurments and credit card infor and once we have it all we placed the order.  This just ensures everything comes our right.  We have had many out of state bms and even brides and if you order them in advace it should be fine just  to pick them up and then ship them to your BM where she is located. Reason we did not ship ourselves was because liability issues that can come up if fedex say lost a package.
  • I just went through this.  The bridal shop I purchased my bridal gown from recommended they all  be ordered at the same time to ensure the same color.  One of my BM's went to get measured at another shop and they said it wasn't necessary.  Both shops could easily have been telling us these things simply because they wanted our money.  In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of making everyone order from the same shop only to then have to ship them all their dresses.  So, we decided to let everyone order from where they live.  I haven't seen the dresses yet, so I'm not sure how close they will turn out, but honestly, I don't care anymore.  If they're a little different, I'm ok with that.

  • My BMs were spread out along the east coast.  I just had them send me their measurements and then I submitted them together as one order.

  • Of course the bridal shop wants you to order them all together, they don't want any of your bridesmaids getting the dress somewhere else.

My sister had us each get a David's Bridal dress in Truffle.  They were ordered at different times from stores around the country, and they were all identical.  Dye lots are controlled by computers these days, so unless one of said computers severely screws up, the differences are undetectable to the naked eye.

Life lesson: don't take advice from someone trying to sell you their services.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
