Asking Bridemaids to Wear a Hair Accesory

Hi All!

My wedding is sooo soon, getting super excited. I bought 5 of these at davids bridal, and I really want my bridesmaids to wear them. I was really easygoing with everything, lets the girls pick the dress and shoes that they wanted, even tho it was a bit of lighter purple. I like these because they will add a bit of contrast.

Can I ask my maids to wear these? Would you not want to? Thanks!

Re: Asking Bridemaids to Wear a Hair Accesory

  • Honestly, I'd wear it- but I'd feel pretty stupid. NMS.

Will that fit the overall style of your wedding? I can see looking very pretty in an outdoorsy, hippie, kind of wedding. Otherwise, it might be kind of weird.
  • I mean, I would wear it but I certainly wouldn't be thrilled about, so not my style. But, since you aren't asking them to wear their hair a certain way or asking them to change their hair color or length then asking them to wear this little hair accessory isn't a huge deal. But like PP said you can't force them to wear it.

I would be so unhappy in that. I would probably act super awkward with it on. LOL

No, I would not wear it. It would not look good with my hair style nor would it look good with my head shape. And, honestly, the bridesmaids are already dressed like matching Barbie dolls. Let each one choose if she wants to wear this adornment.

[QUOTE]MUN1 and Maggie, you are much nicer friends than me. I would say no. I would feel ridiculous wearing that and my discomfort would show in pics.

Oh, did I forget to include that I would need a few drinks in me before hand just so my awkwardness of having to wear a fake fairy garland won't show? Yes, many drinks would be needed. Preferably a nice, and large, cold bottle of riesling :)

I would wear it ONLY if it was a hippie outdoors garden-y wedding. Then I can see it kind of fitting in. It's not my style at all, but I'd do it to make the bride happy. I would feel absolutely ridiculous in it.
  • Warning... this will be one of those things they talk about for years to come.

  • I have to agree. I typically go with the whole, Its your wedding, and you should have your vision, but those are a very specific taste. They are not simple, or subtle at all. So you may end up with a very uncomfortable bridal party, which will affect both the day and your pictures.

That is sooo true. A great friend of mine convinced us to wear a flowered pastel dress, pink lace gloves and pink silk hair flowers (and white shoes!). Oh dear, after I saw those photos, I swore I would never, ever be a bridesmaid again and, if I were convinced to do so, I would definitely not wear what we have, as since, referred to as "hair weeds."
  • Yeah...NO!

Those are very juvenile to me. I cant see a grown woman wearing those.

  • These would be more fitting for a flower girl or jr. bridesmaid. They're a bit too "young" looking for a grown woman.

There is no way in hell that I would wear that.

  • I think that you can ask your bridesmaids to wear whatever you want to. I've been a bridesmaid 10 times and have worn some awful things. As a bridesmaid you just shut up and do it. That being said, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. I think its probably best to steer clear of anything that will make them super uncomfortable. If you were unsure enough to post on here and ask, then that's a pretty good sign that its not the best idea.
  • You can ask your girls, but I wouldn't REQUIRE it.

Personally, I would tell you no.

  • I would wear whatever the bride asked me to wear bc it's her wedding. Doesn't mean I'd be thrilled, I'd just want her day to be the way she's invisioned it.

  • You can ask, but don't make them buy it. I'd wear it if I really loved my friend and if she had bought it already. However, I'd probably look weird in pictures and take it off as soon as pictures were taken.

Every time I read something like this, I think back to the Bride who got all us BMs "funny" personalized underwear and wanted photos of us flashing them at the camera. Mine said "the Biiitchy one" in rhinestones across the butt and no, that was not the worst one.

That was the day I stopped towing the party line of "I'll wear whatever the bride wants".

Oh man....... Lol maybe I do have a line I'd draw

  • I would NOT wear that. And if I absolutely had to I would rip it out of my hair as soon as pictures were over.
