Dress shopping panic!

I'm going shopping for the first time this week, and I've been reading on other sites that the samples at bridal salons are several sizes smaller than your normal clothes--size 4 girls claim to need size 12-14 gown!!! I wear a size 12 in regular clothes and am 6 feet tall, so will I be able to even get these dresses on? Should I have told the salons how big I am? Any tips would be appreciated!!

You'll be just fine.  I wear a size 8 normally, and the size 8s they had in the stores usually fit.  Sometimes a 10..  Sometiems a 6.  It all depends on the style of the dress and the designer.  Size 4 girls might need a size 12 because of the length (if they are tall) or if they have a bust size that corresponds with a larger size rather than an average size 4.  Or maybe that particular designer just has a different sizing system.
Don't worry about the sizes when trying on dresses.  They will clip and arrange the sample on you so you can get an idea of how they would look, and they will take accurate real-life measurements to get you the correct size when you order.

I find this all very weird though I have heard the same claims. when I went dress shopping, they sized me in dresses there were size 4 or 6, which is exactly what my size typically is.

Ditto PPs - I usually wear a 10 and I ordered my dress in a 10.  Most of the samples at the stores I went to were in the 8-14 size range, depending on the designer, but they all clipped and pinned them so I could get a realistic idea how the dress would fit me when I ordered.

I heard exactly the same rumors before going dress hunting and was stressing out about this. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised to fit into my regular size with most of the dresses I tried on. My advice is enjoy your day and don't listen to any more rumors! In the end, no one is going to know if you ordered a bigger size, they'll only look at the gorgeous results, you in your wedding gown ;-)

I dont shop in my local wedding boutique for their limited choices and so high price. I bought mine in a online store trustedeal.com. The store offered me free custom-made. The only thing I do is to fill the right information including my bust size, waist size and hip size. When I got the dress, it fits me perfectly.

I wear a 4. My dress was a 6. I certainly would have been swimming in a 12 or 14.

Don't panic.  While you will usually wear a few sizes bigger in a wedding gown, they are stocked with a variety of sizes.  Even if you need a 16 in a dress, they will put you in a 12 and then hold the back or cilp it so you can get the idea.  It actually works out well to get you the idea.

Just go in with an open mind!

I think it depends on proportions.  I normally wear about 2 two, and I bought a size 4 gown off the rack.  My gown has to be taken in a bit.  I don't know if a 2 would have fit or not because they didn't have any that small.  I tried a few samples size 8, and they were HUGE on me.
