Do you like this dress?

Hi girls! I'm hoping you can help me.

Re: Do you like this dress?

  • I love the dress!

If you are happy and feel great in it, I say stick with it and don't look for more dresses. I am not a big fan of sashes on wedding dresses, but that is just my opinion. I also tend to like bright colors. Is the dress white or ivory? Do you have any accent colors that you could use for the ribbon instead of brown?

I think any color BM dresses would go well with that dress. Dark metallic purple and aqua with silver accents were my wedding colors.
  • I said yes, but the brown has to go.  I don't love the brown, but if you do, go for it!  Don't worry if you'll look silly in 10 years.  The styles you wear on a day to day basis may look silly in 10 years!  If you love the way you look on your wedding day, that's all that's important.  Even if it's out of fashion at some point, you'll still remember how much you loved your dress.

I absolutely love the brown.  I think it's very classy and elegant.  Maybe I'm biased because chocolate brown is one of our accent colors.  I say stick with it!

Also, I think dark purple would look amazing with this dress.

  • I think dark people would look really nice with this dress! On the ribbon, I personally don't like the brown but I'm also not a general fan of color on gowns themselves. There are so many other ways to get pops of color in that are more subtle and won't date photos as much. I do think the ribbon would look really nice in a champagne type color though, which would also match the dark purple BM dresses. GL!
  • Not that this matters, but I am also a mom of a bride to be.

The dress is beautiful and you look lovely in it.  I tend to agree a bit regarding the brown sash for two reasons.  Your neckline is lovely, but my eye is drawn away from it because of the sash.  The dark color definitely cuts the dress in half a bit, which takes away from the graceful flow it otherwise has with the lace.

I would agree that a sash of a softer color would be less distracting.  I would also consider changing the jeweled embellishment to perhaps a softer look...maybe something also made from lace, or at least fabric.

I also saw that your wedding date is for July.  Perhaps a softer color would lend itself to the season a bit more.

I have to say, the dress my daughter chose would never have been my first choice.  I was actually quite shocked that she herself loved it.  But, she looks so fantastically beautiful in it, that any opinion regarding the dress itself gets drowned out by the look my daughter has when she puts it on.  Although I may have an opinion about the dress itself, I would never share it.

Perhaps once your mom sees it with the different sash, and when it is properly fitted to you, and with the headpiece, she will see YOU first, and not the dress.....and fall in love as well.
  • I agree with everything people are saying. My dress is very similar. I'm wearing an ivory sash with mine. My BM dresses are purple and they look good with it, so I think you'll be ok too!
  • I also said "yes, but the brown has to go." I think that having the harsh contrast on the delicate lace takes away from what is a beautiful, beautiful dress. I also tend to think of lace as a more classic fabric, and tend to prefer more gentle colors than bright ones. That said, if you like dark purple, perhaps you could choose a sash in a lighter, complementary shade of purple to wear on the dress if you like the sash? Just some thoughts.

The bottom line is that you should choose what you feel good in, and hopefully your mom will come around and see how happy you are.

  • The brown seems a bit random to me unless it's one of your colors.  The dress is really pretty.
  • it is a stunning gown and I think a very dark purple/eggplant bridesmaid gown will be lovely.
  • I like the brown, but think a lighter color might look a bit less jarring.

I love the idea of a dark purple--I've seen a couple of stunning purple and brown weddings lately.
  • it's pretty. i'm not huge on dresse with sashes.

This, exactly. The dark brown with dark purple BM dresses would look a bit off, IMHO. If you were to do the sash in champagne it would definitely still complement your dress, but it wouldn't be distracting.

  • Is brown one of your wedding colors?  If it isn't then maybe ditch the brown sash all together or have the sash be in one of your wedding colors, like dark purple.

I love the dress by the way!!!  It looks amazing on you.

  • I would say no to the brown unless it's one of your wedding colors. But I love the dress, that's one of the dresses I strongly considered in the dress shopping phase.
