Who pays for the bridesmaid dress?

I'm having doubts in this point, also if I have to pay for the dress do I still have to give her the jewelryfor the event?
Please let me know

Re: Who pays for the bridesmaid dress?

  • Your BMs should pay for their dresses unless you want them to wear something that's way out of their price range- then you should either assist or just pay for it.

You don't have to give them jewelry at all, but if you want them in specific and/ or matching jewelry, you should purchase it.

Ditto hippie.  You first need to ask them what their price range for the gown is, including alterations.  Then it's your responsibility to keep the dresses within the lowest price point.  If you can't find anything they can afford, offer to chip in.

Hair, jewelry, makeup, shoes, etc, it's best to just let them choose their own, perhaps within certain guidelines.  If you dictate anything beyond the dress, it's on you to pay for it.

ETA: Oh, and you need to ask them in private and not as a group so no one feels pressured to commit to more than they can afford.  Also, "How much can you afford to spend on a dress?" is good.  "It looks like the dress is going to be around $150, is that okay?" is bad.  Remember, if she feels pressured not to make waves, she might say yes even if she can't afford it, which will create issues down the line when the money doesn't magically appear.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

And if you do purchase their jewelry, it is NOT their gift.
