which dress? advice! please!

I went wedding dress shopping for the first time yesterday! I tried on a ballgown - my very first dress & loved it! But I didn't want to pick the first, of course, so shopped all day and still it was my favorite... but then I tried on ONE more gown, a tea length dress- and loved it, too!!! AHHH

I am nervous about my finace loving the tea length dress- as he has told me, he pictures me, the girlygirl, fufu type, to wear a princessy ballgown.

I tried on both styles, and I am torn.  I feel beautiful in both.  I love the vintage feel of the tea length and feel adorable, however, I am worried it's too informal?

My wedding is at a golf course, in May, about 75-100 guests.  Hot pink, lime green theme!

Here's pics of both, sorry my head got cut off in cropping! heehe:)

I feel great in the ballgown, too.  I feel like a "traditional" bride, what people would expect me to walk down the aisle in.  It's gorgeous.

Please,
please.. haha, help me!  I want opinions on the m ost flattering dress.

  • I personally like the ballgown more.
  • I like the full length one better

  • I like them both...ultimately only you can make this decision.  Either is great on you, but the both have a different feel and vibe to them.

I suggest going back on maybe a week day evening when the store isn't crowded, and maybe even by yourself or one very honest friend and putting them each back on without putting on any other ones. The first day you go, you can get so overwhelmed with trying on 30+ different dresses and start doubting what you do and don't like.

I wouldn't worry too much about what your FI is going to think, the moment you walk down that aisle he isn't (or at least shouldn't) care if you are wearing a traditional floor-length white ball gown or a knee-length hot pink cocktail dress. He might seem apprehensive beforehand, but I think it would change the moment he saw you completely decked out.

I found a dress that is the best of both worlds, ball gown and tea-length.

I feel like I've been posting the link on every post, I just love it, haha.
  • the tea legnth, the ball gown looks like too much dress, but the tea is that ballgown feeling done less over the top.
  • You look great and happy in both, but my vote is the full length.  As a PP mentioned, the tea length really resembles a typical dress more and IMO, almost a BM.  GL!

  • I actually love the tea length one! I don't think it's too informal. It looks fun.
  • I also just realized that is the dress I had thought about getting when I was going to have a December wedding, so I think of that one as more of a formal winter wedding dress. I think with the right accessories you can jazz up the tea-length and make it more formal if that is what you're worried about. Plus you won't have to be dragging around a dress the entire day, especially if you are out doors.
  • I like them both, and they both have girly attributes as well.  Though I like the tea lengthe a little more, but that's just my personal taste.

I also like Lori's suggestion of goiing back in a week or so to try them on again. If you take the time and come back with somewhat of a fresh mind and possibly an honest friend to try both dresses on, you'll know which one is right for you.

Your fiance will love you in anything you wear that day because it's YOU walking down the aisle.

  • I like the overall effect of the tea length dress, but I think the long dress has a better waistline and creates a nice silhouette.

  • I like the fabric and design of the tea length, but I personally prefer longer gowns.  I'd vote for the ball gown.  You should do like pp said and go back in a week and try again.

  • I definitely like the floor length better. I think it's a better shape for you.

  • Both look good on you, but I think the ballgown looks better on you.  The tea length looks a bit more casual so the dress you choose might also be influenced by the type of wedding you are having (big and fancy or small and casual).

  • I definitely perfer the tea length!
  • I like the ballgown much better on you.  I think it flatters you more, especially through the hips.  I also think this one elongates you, while the tea length one makes you look shorter.

Let's be honest though.  You're a pretty girl and I think you could totally rock either.

  • Ballgown.
  • i like the ball gown but i think you like tea length better which is what matters. you can always kind of tell which one someone likes better when that is the dress they try to "defend" and you were talking up the tea length so go for that!

  • I am in love with tea length dresses, but I have to say, on you, I prefer that ballgown on you- you look gorgeous!

Also, is your wedding in the daytime? I'm actually hoping to get a tea length, but only if our wedding is in the afternoon- I think I'd really want something long if it was late afternoon/evening. Just throwing that out there.
  • I like the ball gown myself.

  • I think the tea length looks adorable and awesome on you! Personally, I think the ball gown is pretty.... but boring.

however, I agree with you that the tea length might be too informal for your event. how formal are you trying to go? I know you said it's at a golf course, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to go really formal with it. Would you like a more fun/semi-formal wedding or straight up formal? If you're not too worried about it being formal, then you can totally rock the tea length.

If I were you, I would do more looking around and see what you come up with. and maybe do more wedding planning so you have a better idea of what type of wedding you are having before buying the dress. as you try on new dresses, perhaps it will become clearer what you want.
  • I like the ball gown better on you...the tea length one is cute but it doesn't look as good as the ball gown.  good luck!
  • i like the long one, more bridal... but they are both pretty. you will be a knockout either way! you cant go wrong!
  • The ball gown.  The short dress does not look like a wedding dress...
  • I like the longer dress but I like the tea too.  Is it feasable to get married in the ball gown and then change for your reception into the tea?  I think the tea looks more like a party dress where the ball gown looks like a wedding and party dress.
  • I like the ballgown...I tried it on and absolutely loved it!  It was in my final 4 and I opted for a different dress.  My only problem with it was that there was no train and this would probably be my only chance to wear a dress with a train.  You do look great in it though!
    Good luck!
