Navy Tux?

My fiance has been obsessed with a navy tux since he saw the most recent James Bond movie. I've nixed it time and again for a number of reasons, one being that our ceremony will be in the afternoon.

...but now J Crew has released an affordale navy tux.

Is it awful?

My bridesmaids are wearing blush/rose/nude/peach/taupe (mismatched), do you think it would look good with navy or should I just leave it alone and not mention it?

Thanks!

  • I like it. I honestly wouldn't have known it was navy based on these pics. Look at it in person though

[QUOTE]Tuxedos should never be worn for an afternoon wedding.

    Definitely my concern.

<div>Technically we haven't finalized the time yet. There is a possiblity we may wait to have the ceremony at 5pm, but it will be August. Do you think that's too early still for a tux?</div>

[QUOTE]5 PM would be acceptable.  The tuxedo you are showing is a very extreme cut.  I doubt if it will be wearable for very long.

<div>I totally agree. The only reason I am even thinking about it is just because FI talks about a navy tuxedo all the time. I would much prefer he just wear a grey suit, honestly. I think it would be more wearable for him and his groomsmen. He's horrible at style choices. He worked on a national daytime talkshow before going to law school, and one of the producers featured his prom attire on one of those "worst dressed" segments. His outfit was so bad. I don't want to feel that way about our wedding photos, lol!</div>

I think it looks nice and would look really pretty with the blush colors of your BM dresses. However, will he be asking his GM to also wear a navy tux? I would just be worried that a navy tux would be hard to rent and might not be re-wearable enough to warrant a GM purchasing a $525 tux. Maybe your FI would go for a navy suit, seeing as your wedding might end up being earlier in the day.

Also, I would make sure to check out those suits in person. I really like the modern looking cut of the J Crew suits, but my FI went to try one on and he said he really hated the more narrow fit of their jackets. Then again he is 6'4" and very broad shouldered, but it just something to keep in mind. He did say he liked the pants okay though.

  • He actually has a very nice navy suit from Brooks Brothers, but he refuses to wear it because, and I quote, "I don't want to wear something I would wear to an office." Sigh.

I'm hoping that as time passes his hatred of shopping will kick in, and he'll just wear the nice navy suit he has, but yeah. I'm really concerned about the groomsmen budgets, and he refuses to check in with them. He oscilates between, "they'll wear whatever I tell them to, they don't care" and "they can wear whatever they want - I don't care if they wear shorts."

I'm doing my best to stay out of it for now, but I'm concerned because while I don't think they need to determine outfits now, I do think that they should be given a heads up to whether or not they need to buy/rent a suit since some of them I know are interested in buying a suit just for their personal lives.

There's my rant for the day ;) lol
