Bridesmaid dress help

So, I found a Bari Jay bridesmaid dress I am in love with, however, it has rosettes along the bustline and I was wondering if you think this would be unflattering to bigger busted and plus size girls.

One bridesmaid is busty, short (5'2) and average weight/body type
another is 5'9 150 (slender) and has a very modest bustline
One is 5'9, broad frame, and plus size (around 190 pounds)
the last one is short (5'4), broad frame, and about 210 pounds.

Do you think it would be unflattering?  Should I just put my maid of honor in the rosette dress and have the other 3 in a more simple dress of the same color.

The one I love is Bari Jay 910 (the short style in Coral)--below is a link

I would take my maids into try it on but the samples are usually a size 10-12 so I wouldn't even be able to really tell how it would look on two of the girls. I also don't want to take them on a dress experience that ends in confidence shattering failure.

  • I'm relatively as you decribed your last BM - though I wouldn't say I have a broad frame - and that dress would look fug on me for sure.  If it were me, I'd pick a designer, fabric, and color and let each BM choose her own dress.  That way, everyone ends up comfortable.

  • I don't think the top of that dress would be flattering on anyone bigger than a B-cup, which it sounds like most of your girls are.

What I did is took my hardest to fit bridesmaid out and she tried on several dresses until we found a few that really flattered her.  Then I had the other girls try on those dresses and I made a decision based on their feedback.

I almost went the 'choose your own dress in my color' route but the dress I liked best was a print.

  • I love the color of the dress and the style but I agree with another poster about it looking good on a b cup size or less. What I did, was chose two separate styles in the color I want, that are the same fabric and let my bridesmaids choose which they liked better and everyone is happy. Well maybe except my bratty maid of honor who thought she should be the only one in a strapless bridesmaid dress...Good luck and I really love that color, so I hope you stick with it!

  • I think that the cup size may be an issue, but I think the bigger issue may be that it is an empire style dress.  That is a hard style for plus size girls too pull off, I am a size 10 and I feel uncomfortable in it.  Also, I think a heavier material that is more forgiving may be better suited.

I guess I am in the minority, but I have a large bust and don't think I would have a problem wearing that dress.  It does suck though that bridal shops only carry the dresses in a small size.

  • I'm with the others:  I don't think that style of dress is going to be flattering on anyone much bigger than the model.  The positioning of the rosettes is also just kind of weird to me.

The girls in the photos are stick insects, and IMO don't look that great- I think it's a really cool dress, I just don't know that it would actually look good on ANYONE. :(

I agree with choosing color/fabric, length and designer and letting each girl choose her own dress.

ETA: When I was a size 0 stick insect with an AA bust I loved Empire. Now that I'm a 6-8 with some slight curves, empire makes me feel like I'm wearing a maternity dress.
  • I would choose something else.
  • Love the dress!! But it might be unflattering for some of the girls. You could go with the long dresses for the taller girls and the short dresses for the shorter girls.
