I hate my dress place

OK so I went to a bridal store that has been around for 20 years. Everyone was sooo nice when we went in and found my dress. Everything seems to be falling apart now.

Really my bridesmaid dresses sent the relationship of sorts over the edge. From unexpected rush fees, to forgotten tax charges, to plain old forgetting to order the darn dresses. When I called 2 weeks ago to check on the ship dates I was informed they forgot to order one of the dresses (after they tried to tell me it had not been paid for ---- umm I had paid for that dress myself well before that date), then they said in order to get it to us on time they would need an additional rush fee (I already paid an unexpected rush fee once before). I ended up speaking (ok politly arguing) with the owner about her business practices and how unprofessional she as well as her staff has been.

My worry is alterations and what not. My dress still will need to be altered as well as sleeves to be places on my dress. I am so worried about the unexpected charges I may have as well as quality I may get now that I have completly and totally pissed the owner off. What should I do, and no make nice probably isn't going to happen. I can play nice but this woman does not strike me as someone who forgets easily. Also this was not a bridezilla moment I was having and probably can not be chalked up to that either. =(

  • Sorry you've had such problems... if I were you I'd take my dress and bring it to an independent seamstress. Ask your local board for recommendations.

  • I hope you did not pay that extra rush fee!  That was their mistake, not yours.  Sounds like a nightmare.

I agree with PP, when the dresses come in take them somewhere else for alterations.  You don't need the extra aggravation.

  • Find a well recommended local seamstress who does wedding dress work.  You are not required to do your alterations at this place.  If you already paid for alterations, I'd cut your losses and find someone else, anyway.   If this is the kind of problems you have just ordering, what do you think will happen when alterations are being done?
  • I agree that you should find another seamstress. Ask around on your local board (links are in the top left) for recommendations, and check for reviews of any potential candidates on yelp.com, our own vendor reviews, and Martha Stewart Weddings reviews. Good luck!
  • I would bring it to another seamstress.  I wouldn't want to deal with them anymore.
