Opinions on colors that look okay with my dress

This morning, my fiance reminded me that our wedding is less than 8 months away.... and I should probably start planning some details...so here I go!

I haven't picked out colors yet, and all opinions would be much appreciated.  I'm terrible at planning, and completely indecisive (hence, we have been engaged for a year and I haven't done too much).  You all seem to be experts. :)

Here is some background- we are getting married 9/9/12 at Mandalay Bay.  Our ceremony will be at VOF and we will be having a reception in a ballroom.

I just bought my wedding dress two weeks ago...same color as the one in the picture (blush wedding dress FTW!)

I would like to have my wedding colors be (bright) pink, organge and a splash of either yellow of green.  I'm concerned those colors may not look right with my dress!  A lot of suggestions for colors when you have a blush wedding dress is to go with greys, browns, ivory, dark purple, etc. but I'm worried I would not like that in the long run.

So - do you think bright colors might look wierd with my dress?  Should I go for more muted colors?  Am I being a total freak (the answer is yes to this one, I think Laughing) ??

  • Hi mhbp. I love your dress. It is so stunning. I'm sure you will look so beautiful. I especially love the colour- I looooove blush wedding dresses!

I definitely like the idea of bright pink, orange and a splash of yellow. I think that will look fantastic with your dress!

Agree.  Your dress is stunning and the colors you have chosen will be just fine.

    Love is the ultimate superpower.
It can make you weak and strong simultaneously.

  • Keep in mind that YOU don't need to match the decor.  I think what you are describing sounds lovely.
  • Gorgeous dress!

  • That dress is beautiful. I would like to see a bright pink with it.

  • Gorgeous! & those colors will look good with it.
  • LOVE your dress! And I also think the colors you described sound just fine. What color are you going to put your bridesmaids in (if you're having them)? I like the idea of the bride being in a soft pink/blush and the bridesmaids being in a bright pink.
  • Love your dress! And those colours sound good to me. If you are concerned can you get swatches of the colours and hold them up your dress (or the sample dress)?
  • So is the dress pink or just the sash? In the picture the dress looked white to me. I would go with softer colors if the actual dress is pink. If you have the opportunity, hold your bridesmaid dress color selections up to the dress and see how it looks. My dress was going to be ivory & my BM dresses were light grey and it looked terrible together! I had to change my dress to white to make sure it would look right in pictures. In terms of your color scheme & flowers, I think what you picked is fine. In the end, in 20-30 years are you going to look back at your pictures and say what was I thinking? If so, then I would go with a different color. I am all for simple elegance and keeping a classic look.

  • Ladies - Thank you!! I feel much better about everything now.  Just needed a little encouragement. :)

Getting a swatch is a great idea.  I'm defintely going to look into it.  The sash and the hem of the dress are blush, and the underlay of the dress is also pink, but it is more understated as the overlay has white applique (sp?).

I'm only have my sister stand up with me, and we talked last night and decided she won't pick out her dress until we have my dress so we can get a good look at both together and make sure they don't look strange together.  She wanted a black cocktail dress that she could wear again, but I think a bright pink cocktail dress could be just as cute.
