Bridesmaid dress dilemma

I am having a June wedding and thought it would be nice to have cocktail length dresses, but my sister has tons of tattoos and another bridesmaid doesn't feel comfortable wearing it. I want all my bridesmaid to feel comfortable. I know the new thing is to wear different styles, but would it look fine to have 2 bridesmaids in the cocktail length dresses and the other 2 in a longer dress?

Re: Bridesmaid dress dilemma

  • as long as its the same fabric and color, i think you're fine.  so pick the color and the fabric, and let your bridesmaids pick the dresses.  thats really the only way you can guarantee that they will be comfortable.

and, if your sister wants to wear a cocktail length dress, she should be allowed to.  you asked her to be in your wedding party knowing she has 'tons of tattoos' - i think you should take her as she is and let her be comfortable.  that's just my opinion on the tattoo thing.  i'm kinda new to the boards, so that might not be the majority opinion.
  • I'm right there with you! the gal who was going to be my bridesmaid, she has since moved really far away, was pretty inked, and no concevable dress was going to cover it, you gotta take people as they are.
back to the question, definilty let everyone pick the dress, go with all satin or all chiffon  and all one color and it's going to look awesome

  • You shouldn't make your sister wear a longer dress to cover her tattoos, unless it's her decision to do so.  If you want them covered, it's only fair to put all of the girls in a floor length dress.

I don't think they all have to be the same length.  My sister had a pretty even split between long and short dresses, and it looked just fine.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • My girls are wearing the same colour and fabric but whatever style they are most comfortable in.
  • Ummm, maybe the OP sister wants to cover her tatoos and asked for the longer gown.

As long as it's the same color, and in my opinion, fabric, they will all look great.
