Church Donation

So my fiance and I are getting married in a Catholic church, however we are not doing a full mass. We are lucky in the sense that there are no fees associated with having the wedding at the church, but rather you donate.

Any thoughts on what would be a reasonable amount to donate to the church for the wedding? I've heard everything from $50 up to $500...??

I think the donation depends on a few different things...are you and your fiance members of the church? Will you be having an organist? cantor? Here is a breakdown of what we will be paying for our church (we are not members)

    Offering $450
    Organist $200
    Cantor $150
    Wedding Coordinator $150

    Total $950.00

My church "doesn't charge" but you must make an offering...of how much they tell you.

    Total its $750.

That is for having a rehearsal, organist/soloist, most of it is an "offering." And I'm an active member.

Every church is different... Members at the church in which we're marrying donate around $150, nonmembers around $500. I agree with the first response... Figure out all the aspects of the church you'd like to use, such as organist, singers, etc., and plan your donation according to your budget and what you deem appropriate.

The Church we got married in asked for a $100 deposit, and then listed a 'suggested offering' of $300. That's all we paid, as we had an outside vendor for musicians. But all churches are different, really.

Our church suggested $300 (we are members)  plus cantor, organist, and any other musicians we want.  We are also giving our preist $150.  He didn't ask we just decided that was a good amount to give.

Our church asks for $250 for members, $350 for the organist, and it's $75 for the precana fees. We're also giving our priest $150 as a gift.

Thanks for all your help! We are not active members at the church, and we've already paid our organist $175 and we aren't having anyone else play or sing at the wedding. So really the only other fee we have is the donation, and our priest/church didnt give a suggested amount or anything, so we'll have to sit down and figure it out.  Thanks again!
