Dare to buy online???

Has anyone purchased their wedding dress from any of those super cheap websites, where the dresses look beautiful and perfect but are only $200 or so?  Light in the Box and Brides Lee are examples of what I am talking about.  My little baby budget only allows me a $400 dress (including alterations) and if these sites are legit, would be a fantastic answer.  Some of them you can even send in your measurements and they will make the dress specfically to fit you!  Any experiences with this?  Thanks so much!!!

  • Read the sticky post above yours.  These sites are not a good idea because the picture they post are not the dresses they make.  The pics are stolen from the original designer's site and posted as their own.  The quality will not be as good and the fabric much less inferior.  Seams may not be straight, beading may be much different, and the general construction may be really poor and cost you more to have it fixed than the dress it self.  You're better off finding a dress in person.  Try a second hand dress (especially since these dresses are usually only worn for a couple of hours) if you can't find a new one you like in your budget.

  • Groomsmen used one of these sites for my friend's wedding. None of the suits fit. One guy couldn't even wear his. The groom looked foolish as his fit so poorly. Three guys looked okay, but why would you risk it if you are the bride!?!

  • Don't do it. You will end up very sad. Try recycledbride.com or oncewed.com. many brides sell dresses that have never been worn or altered.
  • I bought my dress off one of the major "used wedding dress" websites last week for around a 50% discount. I'll admit I was a bit nervous buying something used that I hadn't seen in person. It arrived over the weekend and I couldn't be more excited! Here's my tips for a good experience:

    1) Buy a corset/lace up back. These are so much more flexible in handling minor differences between different people's shapes/measurements, vs a zipper back with no give/take. My particular dress doesn't even need any alterations other than hemming (I'm short). If your dress is a zipper back, buy off your largest measurement. It's easier to take a dress in than it is to make it come out.

    2) Don't be afraid to ask the sellers questions, and ask for more photos of THEM in the dress (they can crop their face out if needed). Something about seeing them in the dress helped reassure me that this wasn't a knockoff coming from China, and helped me visualize how the dress appeared on someone with similar measurements as mine.

    Good luck!!
