Garters for larger women?

Hi guys,

I'm a US size 12-14 (5'7"). I've never worn a garter before, but looking online I don't see a lot of sizes. Because I'm not little, should I be looking at specialty stores for larger sizes or are they pretty stretchy. I don't want to have my wedding day focus be the pinching on my thigh.

Also, it's probably going to sound like a silly question, but do most brides wear the garter all ceremony and reception long, or do they put it on just before the garter toss?

Thank you so much!

  • There are a lot of etsy vendors that make custom garters.  You might consider having someone make something custom specifially for you.  Just a thought!

  • You can also go on ebay & they have larger garters.

  • How do I even know what size garter to buy though? Most don't seem to have sizes or measurements associated with them.
  • Ditto etsy... I ordered my garter set from an Etsy seller and she had a note in her listing to let her know if you needed a larger size. HTH!

I ordered my garter set from Etsy seller makethisdayspecial.
  • I put mine on at the reception. I think it's best to wear it lower on your thigh (so the groom doesn't look like he's touching your crotch!) and I don't think you'll have a problem. I'm pretty thin but not super skinny, and my garter started to fall down sometimes. I got a hanky panky one (it was like 12$ at nordstrom) and it's very stretchy, and definitely fine for lower thigh.
  • I planned to put the garter on at the reception so I wouldn't have to worry about it falling down or being uncomfortable.  Well as the night went on and the dj announced we were getting ready to do the bouquet and garter toss, I realized I forgot to put it on.  While I was tossing the bouquet, my husband was outside getting the garter out of the car and hiding it up his sleeve so he could fake it!  Nobody could tell!  I almost wish we planned it this way as I think it was easier than wearing it/remembering to put it on later!
