Ring Bearer Tux?

Hi Ladies,
IS your ring bearer wearing the same tux as the guys in the wedding party?  Our tux rentals will be $200, and I can't imagine renting a tux for that amount for a 5 year old.  What are you doing?  Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Ring Bearer Tux?

  • Mine wore a little suit that he had gotten as a hand me down. His mother decided to put a purple tie on him to match my wedding colors.
  • My ring bearers are both wearing tuxedos. They are 8 and 10 though. We didnt get them the same tuxedos as the groomsmen. We got them a cheap 99 dollar tuxedo. I think tuxedos for ring bearers are SO cute. :-)

Ditto CMGr.  Tuxedos are very formal men's wear.  Have your ring bearer wear something age appropriate.  Eton suit is perfect.
  • As far as it being appropriate or not, I'm not sure.  But our RB IS wearing the same tux as the groomsmen.
  • My daughter's ring bearer was only 3 years old and wore a tux.  Looking back I wish he had worn something else, possibly just a suit or dress pants and shirt and tie.  He looked so uncomfortable in the tux and he looked lost in it.  If you do decide to do a tux, I would check on Craigslist.  They seem to have several most of the time that were worn once.........

No you don't have to have your ring bearer in a tux at all, let alone a matching tux. As you can see from some of the answers above some people are flat-out against the idea of a mini-tux. It really comes down to your own opinion, though! There's lots of different attire out there for ring bearers! I guess just think about the tone of your wedding and since he's 5 years old try to keep him as comfortable as possible no matter what you choose!

We're having the ring bearer wear a tux that is age appropriate. It costs about $70, everything included. Your tux shop should have these or be able to order them.

Edited to add: A friend several years ago had a ring bearer in her wedding and dressed him in a shirt and tie instead of a tux. It looked like a child had misplaced his jacket or that he had wandered into the picture. He looked out of place.

My opinion is that formal wear is about looking good. Casual wear is about comfort. People rarely dress up anymore, which is why I think that they seem to only know about comfort and that is their frame of reference regarding attire.
  • $200? That seems a bit much, even for the adults!

There should be some other place in town with better rates, unless you live in a remote area.
  • Our ring bearer is wearing a tux.  Its a personal choice and not inappropriate to have a child in a tux.  I have been to several weddings with the ring bearers in tuxes and never questioned it at all...

    Our ring bearer is 7.

I completely forgot to ask what the cost is for the children's tux, but the men's tuxes are $120.00.

<strong><font color="#000080">Of course it's not inappropriate for children to wear a tuxedo. It looks great in pictures and it introduces children to dressing up for special events. It makes them feel like they're an equal part of the big day.

I've been to weddings that had no small children in it, but all of the ones that I've been to had the child dressed like the adults.

If it were  inappropriate, wouldn't there be a good reason? And if it were inappropriate, why would they be offered for sale or for rental? Some people on these boards make these definitive statements as if they are style authorities.

When it's your special day, you can do it your way - There are no rules, only general guidelines. It's a little silly for people who are renting clothing to try to make a pretense of elitism or to take on an air of snobbery.
