Has anyone ordered their gown from an inexpensive remake shop from China? If so...

did it turn out well? What are the pros and cons?

Re: Has anyone ordered their gown from an inexpensive remake shop from China? If so...

  • There have been several posts on this lately, so scroll down the page a bit and you'll find more advice.

As for myself: I would never order a knockoff dress unless I were prepared to risk losing my money and needing to purchase another gown, because you really have no idea what the quality will be like or if it will in any way resemble the dress you think you're purchasing. If you think that risk is worth it, then take the chance. If you really can't afford to lose that $200 or whatever you'd spend on it, then spend that $200 on a dress that you KNOW is beautiful before you buy it.

Here's a link to some knockoff disasters. I have heard a lot of positive feedback other brides, but this is just to show you how risky it can be:

  • opalsky said it all.  There's always going to be some pros and cons to everything.  I've read/heard more cons about it so I would be really leery about doing it myself.  Plus, I'm one where I want to SEE it before I purchase anything.

I got both my gowns(ceremony and reception) through two different places on E Bay(Chinese knock offs)
They are BEAUTIFUL, no one can tell how very little I spent.  The best thing is they make the dress exactly to your measurements so there is no need for alterations. It arrived at my local post office within a month and tehir e mail communication was wonderful.

Also because I went through E Bay I of course checked the shop feedback. I wouldn't even consider buying from someone who had under 99% positive reviews. And be sure to read the reviews. The place I went with had over 600 glowing reviews and only about 10 so-so ones. Even the so sos were simple problems-such as "dress arrived wrinkled".  So I took a chance and it was 100% worth it.

I also got a beautiful 4 tiered veil and a hoop petticoat for $20 total.

My friend's little sister did it and her dress turned out great! She loved it!
If you're a "normal" sample size (6 - 12), and wouldn't need much for alterations, I'd say do it!!
If you think you'll need alterations for height or width or bust line, I don't think I'd risk it, becuase what you'll save on the dress, you'll end up paying for alterations.
  • I ordered my dress from bestdressprice.com. It's a knock-off, and really no one would have a clue.. I am getting minor altering done to it to match the original a little better. I myself was worried about how it would turn out, but now that I have it, and I haven't spent $1200 for it, I'm SOO glad I got it online.  There's no way I could have spent that kind of money. I'm getting the same thing for less than $400, that includes getting alterations, and shipping.
I did a lot of research, and honestly I was willing to chuck the $300 I spent if it turned out like crap. Totally not what I would have wanted, but I was willing in case. THankfully everything came out wonderful :)
