Attire for the rehearsal dinner

Question:
What is the appropriate attire that should be worn to the rehearsal dinner? The rehearsal is being held at the church then we're having BBQ right afterwards also at the church. Actually, we'll be eating in the same location as the reception. Am I supposed to wear a dress to this event, or can I dress casual?
Help!

Re: Attire for the rehearsal dinner

  • The appropriate attire depends on the formality of the RD.
It sounds like it's a little more relaxed so you could go more casual if you want. I mean.. it's BBQ.
We had a more formal RD at a very nice restaurant so I wore a little white dress, but if I had had our RD as a BBQ I would have gone much more casual.
  • Since the rehearsal is in the church, you want to make sure you wear something appropriate for a church.  Maybe a sundress with heels and a cardigan over your shoulders.  Then you can ditch the cardigan and throw on cute sandals for the picnic part.

  • How about a less formal dress, like a sundress with some nice sandals?

  • Dress as you would for a mid-week or normal or casual church service. This will be our instructions for everyone attending our rehearsal and dinner. For lots of people, at lots of churches, that's jeans. For some people, it might always be a dress. Let others have some idea of the unofficial dress code, too.
