Help!

I've gone trying on dresses and trust me I've fallen in love with a dress that I can't afford. It's $2,259.00!!!! I didn't want to spend much over $1,000.00. Would anyone know how I could get my hands on Kitty Chen's Empress dress for less?

Re: Help!

• It's a lovely gown.

I would just take pictures with you to local bridal shops and try to find something similar, or see if anywhere is having a KittyChen sample sale.

Another option is to find a local seamstress (or look on Etsy) who could recreate a similar dress for you on your budget. Best of luck!

• try preownedweddingdresses.com I found my $1300 Essence of Australia for way less. (haven't bought it yet, one more shopping trip tonight) Other websites, oncewed.com

Try to find something similar. I'm still doing this one more time. And if you do go try on more dresses, make sure they don't let you try anything on over your budget. That's the first mistake

That is a lovely gown!

Here's a Maggie Sottero that is similar to the Kitty Chen that you like:
http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?pageSize=100&page=3&style=S5082 the Maggie doesn't have the neat cascade on the back, though.

You could try the Wedding Classifieds right here on the Knot, or preownedweddingdresses.com. Definitely take a pic of the one you love when you go shopping, you might be able to find something that is close and in your budget.

Good luck!

I had a similar issue with Pronovias Tamara. I fell in love with the neckline and the romance and then discovered it was $7000, way over our $4000 price point. So, I kept shopping (rather dejectedly) and tried to keep an open mind and ended up finding something different (Mon Cheri Jordan) that made me look fantastic through the waist (I could stop by Chipotle for a burrito and have no tell-tale belly buldge in that thing!). I brought the photo of the Pronovias dress and asked them if they could recreate the neckline and they absolutely could! And, since my dress is thousands of $$ less than our budget, having the seamstress fuss with the design still keeps us well under our price point!

Just a story to encourage-- I thought I'd never find a dress that compared and was lamenting that I'd have to settle but ended up with something much better than I had hoped! Take the photo with you places and, if you find dresses within your budget that are similar, ask about creating that back or adding the waist-bling to create a unique look that still measures up to your vision!

PS-- don't try on dresses you can't afford! It will only lead to heartbreak!
• Thanks for the advise ladies!! I totally didn't mean to try a dress out of my price point but the women brought the dress in so I thought it was within budget... then when I asked how much I was absolutely shocked. Thanks again ladies.

• Absolutely do NOT go back to that place, then! There is no reason for a consultant to bringing in a dress that you cannot afford. That is completely unprofessional! It's one thing to bring in a dress overbudget and inform the bride to see if she is willing to try it on and up the budget if she loves it, but to not inform the bride of the price is unforgivable!

Agreed - especially if the dress is SO much higher than the bride's budget.

• Agree 100% with amatadei and Cleo7. I'd honestly be shocked if you didn't complain to management since it was more than twice your budget.
• I agree with you ladies.. I figure though these ladies are paid commissions and so I kinda expected them to bring dresses high than my budget.

• Even though they work on commission, their job is to find a gown the bride loves within her budget. Like I said, sometimes they will bring in gowns over your budget, but then they say something along the lines of "I thought you would love this dress but was hesitant to show it to you because it is $xx over budget." Not warning you of the discrepancy between the price of your dress and your budget is completely unprofessional. You really should complain to the management-- that woman really needs to be told how unacceptable that is... Hey, perhaps they will even give you a discount on the dress for your heartache-- it might not make it all the way back down to your budget, but perhaps it will drop it into your neighborhood at least!
• If you are willing to wait until sometime in Fall, you might be able to catch some clearance sales. I got my $1250 dress for $400.
• Check out http://www.buyweddinggowndress.com/

They "offer copies of the famous designer's wedding dresses, custom made..."

MANY DRESSES ARE AROUND $300.

I don't encourage buying fakes but this is the best alternative to getting the dress you love at a price you love as well.

• I got my dream dress (Sottero & Midgley) at a consignment store! The dress is actually brand new (tags still on!) Retail for my dress is $1800 and I paid $650! Try your local consignment stores! Great resource for dresses and keeping you on track for your budget!
• Yes! All these are great suggestions. We have a local consignment store in Austin that carries tons of wedding dresses. I didn't find my dress there, but I just found a beautiful veil there for $35. ;) You might also aks if the bridal store would be willing to sell you the sample (if it's in good shape...really good shape).
• Try www.oncewed.com

They have pre-owned & never before worn wedding gowns on this site for a fraction of the price! Definitely worth a look :) Best pre-owned wedding gown website I've found...
• Do a google search for your dress - websites (such as below) will come up and you'll find some great deals. This website lists your dress under $300:

Good luck!!
• Have you tried a Google Alert? I found exactly the dress I'd wanted (MS Capri Lynette) after having Google alert me whenever the term "Capri Lynette" was newly mentioned online. It picked up all sorts of oncewed ads and even covered every city's Craigslist postings.

Google alerts are free and easy to set up. Just go to www.google.com/alerts.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes! :-D

• Try http://www.netbride.com. I got my bridesmaids dressed from there and one of my bridesmaids ordered her wedding gown from them!
