Black, Black, Black . . . And now I'm so confused on what to do.

Here is the situation. I have had too long to stir over wedding ideas! Wedding put back twice because of a death in the family. We just weren't up to it... Plus venue has change from chapel, boat, to now garden/barn... Less formal.
So now the girls and I have our dresses. The empire waist of my dress (ivory lace, strapless light trumpet flare) has a ribbon that knots in the middle and so does their's. We were so excited that the detail matched when we found it. We hadn't even been looking for it. The dress is tea length which is perfect for a summer, casual wedding. However the only colour we really liked it in was black. No big deal right? My requirement for the dresses was that it be something they could afford and something that they could/would wear again. Otherwise it was free rien to them.
My colours are black and white damask with aqua/teal blue. I would like fuschia and plum purple as accents in like the greenery and some of the decor.
Now what do I do with the girls so they don't look like they're going to a funeral? I thought of pashminas but its the first week of august and it might be too hot. My MOH doesn't like the parsol idea, but I am reconsidering that if we get stuck. I want colour somewhere other than the flowers. I've seen matching boquets and shoes with black dresses, it was kinda cute. Any other ideas anyone?

  • How about putting aqua/ teal sashes or belts around the dress with matching shoes for the girl's. Maybe the guys can wear all black with aqua/teal vest and ties. If u wanted to do use fuschia also, put that in your bouquets and the men can have fuschia boutineer?!?!?

  • I personally don't like the look of colored sashes on dresses, so I'd vote for some super flashy/fun jewelry. I think that would be fine!

  • i'd play up the shoes, jewelry, hair accessories to be more colorful along with the flowers.
is their ribbon black as well? can that be changed to a color?
you could also give them a sheer shawl in an aqua to drape around them.
  • You could very easily add a ribbon/lace belt to their outfits in whatever color you'd like.  You could also buy them nice corsages to pin on their dresses that compliment or match their bouquets.

  • add color with the shoes and flowers.  black dresses will not look morbid, I promise!  My friend had us in black tea length dresses in the summer and it looked very classy-- not to mention I've used the dress a few times since the wedding.  Only way they will look like they are going to a funeral is if they are crying and mourning your weddnig :)

  • Very relieved to hear from you all! I'm thinking colour shoes as an almost defanite (if we can find something we like)! Some kind of shawl/pashmina is worth looking into too! I've already started combing the web for jewellery ideas!!

Thanks again to everyone for your imput!!
