Necklace in Hair?

I have this beautiful pearl neacklace that belonged to my grandmother, but i won't really go with my dress. I am thinking maybe i will put it in my hair as a pretty headband - has anyone tried this? I think it could look cute.

  • I love to see a photo of that. I have see an updo with pearls wound through it and thought it was lovely
  • Thinking something like this - very loose and romantic.

  • Sounds like a great idea. All you'd really need a piece of elastic to tie between the ends. Or some good bobby pins.

  • what i would do is get a very thin headband, and use those clear tiny hair elastics to hold the necklace onto the headband. with pearls, it would be so easy to do. just place an elastic every 4 or 5 pearls. =)

that way, the tension is on the headband and not the necklace, so you wont have to worry about breaking the necklace.

elastic is born to break.
espically if shes going to be dancing and moving all day/night.

do NOT use elastic!

Ive made these before (I make and design jewelry) and what Ive done was use a ribbon.

what type of clasp is on the necklace? if I know the type of clasp I can tell you how to properly attach the ribbon.

  • Thanks Beaker! It's a traditional loop and clasp - the kind you have to hold back with your nail. Any advice would be appreciated!

what you want to do is get 2 clam shells and 1 soldered jumpring.

the clamshell looks like this: http://www.koiming.com/shop/images/Bead%20Tip%20Clamshell%20Rhodiuml.JPG

the soldered jumpring is like this: http://www.agrainofsand.com/ecom/prod/5118t.jpg

what you will do is take the ribbon and run it through the clamshell so that the hook part of the clam shell is facing out towatds the ends of the ribbon.
you will make a knot on the end of the ribbon so that the knot will sit inside the mouth of the clam shell

it should look like this: http://www.infobarrel.com/media/image/34966.jpg

do that to one end and measure the length you need so it fits comfortably behind your head so that you know where to knot the other side.

you will knot the other side with the clamshell just as you did the first side.

now the side of the necklace that already has the ring/loop on it you dont really have to do anything to. take the ring/loop and drape it/hook it.sttach it onto the hook of the clamshell.
now take a round nose plier and roll it back so the end of the hook touches the mouth part of the clamshell.
this is how it will look then: http://www.coopersbeads.com/product_images/clam-shell-bead-tip-calotte-ss-bdtip2.jpg

then you will squish the mouth together and it will look like this: http://www.fusionbeads.com/a/knottool/step-5.jpg

you will repeat these steps with the other side but on the other side you will attach the soldered jump ring that you have.

so that the clasp that is on the necklace will just clamp onto the ring that is attached to the ribbon.

you can then wear it with pride and when asked you can say "yeah I made this!"

if you have trouble you can email me and Ill talk you through it
