Ordering My Bridal Gown - Tips??

I've decided on my gown - Essense of Australia D1042.

I'm going on Sunday to my local shop to actually place the order. I'm thinking I might ask if they can possibly reduce the cost slightly if I pay in full up front. I'm not sure what their normal policy is. Has anyone ever had luck with asking for any kind of extra discount?

Beyond that, what other tips do you have for ordering my dress? I have compiled a pretty good list of things to include in the contract:
- Designer
- Style Number
- Size
- Color
- Accessories included - mine comes with a belt
- Cost of the Dress
- Possible extra fees like shipping, storage or garment bag. They said pressing/steaming is included in the original cost.
- Note that the dress is brand new, never before used, and must be delivered to me in 100% clean and perfect condition...or a refund is in order.
- Guaranteed delivery date

Anything else I'm missing or should look out for??

Re: Ordering My Bridal Gown - Tips??

  • The bridal shop that you go with should have their own contract, if they don't I would order elsewhere.

As far as pricing, I didn't bargain with mine, but they did offer 6% off for paying up front, nothing huge or exciting, but it covered my sales tax.   Some designers set standards for prices and the salons just can't go any lower.  If they do it may be a knock-off!

Have you checked the price of the gown at other stores?  Also, ask if it includes alterations.
  • Always ask for a discount. The worst thing they can say is no. Normally boutiques mark up dresses 2x or more anyway so they may be willing to give you a discount based on you paying up front.

Like the previous post said, they will likely have their own contract, but I think its a good idea to bring your list of stipulations anyway and have them added, if possible.

  • Highly suggest ordering from a reputable bridal salon, you can ask for a discount and you may get one!  But don't push too hard on that because you may regret it in another way.
