HELP!! Torn Between 2 Opposite Gowns

Ok so I have a little less than a year until my wedding.  I know I have time, but I really would like to order the dress sooner than later.  Only problem is, I'm in love with two completely different dresses.. I love specific elements about both- I've tried them both on and both complement my body type well... Both dresses are way more glam in person BTW..

Dress 1-- /> I've been loving forever, Allure 8700

The pros:  Its a convertible dress so it's super convenient and also so cute/couture.  I also lovee the long train, buttons down the back, and the mermaid style.

The cons: Fabric is pretty thick for an outdoor daytime Sept wedding.  Also, I'm afraid the flowers at the hem might be too trendy and end up dating my dress in a few years...  Also, the long train- might get messed up during the ceremony (on grass in a garden) or while dancing (under a tent on semi-rough concrete)

Dress 2 -- /> Mori Lee 6301 I just happened to try on in the salon on a whim and really loved it!

Pros: Lightweight and breathable, can definitely dance in it all day.  The detail is gorg and the back criss cross is stunning.  No train at all, wouldn't get messed up during the ceremony (on grass in a garden).  Half the price of Dress 1!!

Cons:  Not Bridal enough, kind of casual ( if I only get to wear a gown once in my life, shouldn't I go all out?)  Also, not mermaid, which is my favorite silhouette.

Okay thats a lot of information.  But I really am torn between two dresses... I would love to hear your opinions.  Anyone torn between two dresses? I wish there were a hybrid of the two that looked good... I wonder if it could even be altered to fit a little more tight on the body and make it a sort of mermaid?  Anyone ever done that?

What do you girls think about for the outdoor garden, does one suit the atmosphere way better?  Thanks in advance!!!

Re: HELP!! Torn Between 2 Opposite Gowns

  • I personally think the second one is too plain but that's just me. Also, I considered buying a gown that I could have altered into a short gown after the wedding so I think it would be awesome to wear your wedding dress without the long skirt to a New Year's Eve party or something like that after your are married!
  • The first one is so pretty :o)
  • I vote for #1 its stunning.

  • I voted for the first one, I think it's gorgeous!  But then, I'm partial to mermaids, so I might be biased. :)

  • got to tell ya, if you like dress one, then i think you would regret dress too, it a little plain in comparison, and dress one gives you two dresses! instant reception gown!
  • Dress #1 is beautiful and more high fashion, but I think it would be out of place at a garden wedding.  I think dress #2 would be better suited to a garden wedding.  Don't forget that you can dress it up with veil and jewelry.

You do have plenty of time, so I think if you are not in love with #2 keep looking.
  • I personally like dress 1...( kind of my style and I love the idea of 2 dresses in 1 . BUT from the description of your event  , I voted for dress 2. It might be a little plain , but it fits really nice for an outside , Garden wedding..If your event is not very formal , I say go for it .  Either way I think you will not go wrong . The first dress can be reversed in a short dress for the reception , which will help with the heavy weight of the skirt and the train being all over the place in the grass.

If you really like a mermaid silhouette, then keep looking !!! There are some really nice dresses with mermaids silhouette yet simple for an outdoor wedding out there

    Good luck
  • I like dress 1 better, but for a garden wedding I think it's a little much.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it becoming dated or getting dirty - as you said you only get to wear it once :)

  • Go with what you want-- and I don't think it's too trendy-- very classy in my opinion

  • I like both of them. The second one would be great to wear for the reception since it is more casual!
  • They're both so pretty!...

When I see the first one, I think chic NY wedding... so I dunno, I personally feel any dress a bride chooses automatically fits what she wants...but who knows in this instance...some dresses really do have too much personality I guess.

When I see the second one, I think THIS dress can go anywhere, especially outdoors or informal.  Some may think it looks plain, but I think it looks great as is, but as always, a plain dress can be dressed up...

I voted for #2, but personally my thinking is that if you don't know, perhaps neither of them are THE dress...

  • you girls are awesome thank you.. I'll let you know what I decide! :))))))
  • I had this problem also.  I chose to wait a few months and go back to the bridal shop and re-try them on.  I had no problem deciding that day.  i was also lucky enough to have a great consultant who was not afraid to tell me her opinion on how I looked in each dress

  • Wow, I'm so glad I found your post.  This is exactly the same situation that i'm in.  My wedding will be outdoors in early June, in the courtyard of a B & B. I'm torn between a Maggie Sottero Destiny and a lightweight casual dress by Venus.  Please let me know what you decide - I'm curious how it will work out for anyone in similar situations.  I am so concerned with the weight/material of the Maggie Dress, but we're only doing this once, right? So go big or not at all!  I'm just not sure - I definitely don't want to be all sweaty and hot on my big day.  But I don't want to "downplay" the importance of my day by having such a casual dress.  Good luck to you!
