Fashion for an "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Wedding

From groom's and groommens' suits, to a wedding dress, to bridesmaids' and flower girl's dresses. I am looking for suggestions and inspiration for my "A Midsummer Night's Dream" wedding. Any idea? Any price range. I love Claire Pettibone but will have to travel 5 hrs to the nearest salon that carries her! :(

Re: Fashion for an "A Midsummer Night's Dream" Wedding

  • Well, first for Midsummer you have to decide if you're going for the forest world (with fairies) or where the humans of the cast live. For humans, they're all Athenians, if I remember correctly (or Shakespeare's version of them) so classical greek/roman styles would fit in well. For the fairies, you can get a little wilder, they're forest creatures named after flowers and the like (one's mustardseed and another's cobweb if I remember correctly) so nature/flowy things would fit there. Don't have anything specific to point to, but those are the two avenues I would choose from/mix and match personally.

    Google Midsummer Night's Dream Wedding

David Tutera did one, here's the link. http://www.davidtutera.com/event_photos-new.php?g=14&a=58

For the dress, I think Alfred Angelo's Repunzel from the Disney Collection or the Modern Vintage one would be pretty with your theme.
  • Certainly not dressing people as fairies to be clear.
I am just looking for something that envelopes the feeling of Shakespeare's writing, as StageManager said "Shakespeare's classic comedy."
The elements that I am talking about specifically are the more magical, more "forest-y" ones but my location has a few greecian elements to its architecture so it will certainly draw on that idea as well.

I like Claire Pettibone so much because all of her fashion seems to be inspired by the same ideas that I am using (she had created a line a few years ago inspired by fairies) and are by no means costumes.

I am a huge fan of David Tutera and I think he does great weddings that are never "hs dance"-ish. He never dresses the bridal party in costumes, ever. However, one of the things that he always does on his show is to make sure that the fashion does not negate the theme or look non-cohesive. I think that saying "just pick whatever, ignore the inspiration for the style and design of the wedding," that is where it really becomes mod-podged hs dance-ish-- when the look and feel of the wedding is not cohesive and the elements do not agree with eachother. I think that true classy weddings (or any event) are created by finding your specific inspiration and drawing upon it for every element of the event.
Just think how out of place Kate Middleton would have looked if she had worn a beach-y column dress to her wedding.
