Dress question....

Hi Brides!

I am just now starting my dress hunt ( trying on dresses at Kleinfelds in 2 weeks)..

We are planning a destination wedding but I am not a fan of the destination wedding dresses ( super light weight, airy..etc)...

I am trying to figure out how to buy the dress I like but still make it venue/destination appropriate..

I am in love with these dresses and am sort of worried they will be too heavy.. too big.. etc...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Any tips would be much appreciated..

TIA,
Kelly

Re: Dress question....

  • I agree with the milkdud lady.  Try on different styles and see what looks good on you and what you like. I'm getting married in Hawaii and kept gravitating toward the big poofy wedding gowns, but after I tried walking around in them there was no way I could do it and feel comfortable.

  • Same! Please don't rule anything out.  You could be totally surprised! Those dresses are awesome though- I love the Kenneth Pool one- but I'm biased because my dress looks similar lol.

I tried on some dresses that looked like they'd weigh a lot, but were SUPER light with the fabric. Not sure what fabric it was, but you could find something like that that could work for you.

  • I agree with PP.  I had this (wrong) assumption that all wedding dresses were ridiculously heavy and uncomfortable.  Even as I was holding the dresses on the hanger, I kept thinking *OMG this is a thousand pounds*  But you might be surprised at how some dresses feel when you put them on.  Don't rule out a dress that you like just because it doesn't fit the "destination wedding" mould.  But also push your limits; you may find out that you look fabulous in a destination-type wedding dress, even if it doesn't look great on the model in the picture.

  • I think a lot of "destination dresses" are lightweight because they are made for beach ceremonies.  For a beach wedding, I do think the dresses you linked might be a little odd.  But you could definitely pick a venue on the fancier side and those dresses would be completely apropriate.

And hey, even if you do have a beach wedding in a more formal gown, who cares?  You're the one who has to wear it, so don't settle.

  • Who says you have to wear a certain type of dress for a certain type of venue...I saw a bride on Waikiki beach in a fancy shiny ball gown.  Get the dress you want no matter where the location of your ceremony.  But definitely try on different types of dresses, I'm one of the many ladies here who would say she didn't end up buying the type of dress she thought she would!

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
