I'm Short, can a short dress look good? if so, where to get 1?

I'm only 5 feet tall and at a dress shop the other day, the owner suggested a long sheath dress to make me look taller. Although it looked good, I had my heart set on a tea length dress. The only ones I've found however, are online. Has anyone had good luck with an online retailer? I'm thinking of buying one online, but you cannot return it... What if a short dress does make me look too short?
Confused :(

  • i'm around that height, and am getting a short dress for a reception party this year, go an inch below the knee instead of true tea legnth it tends to look better on us vertically challeged girls :P
  • I'm 5 feet tall and a tea length dress would look awful on me.  However, I agree with PP that having a dress hemmed to be a bit shorter would look better!

I am only about 5 foot 2 in and I didn't even consider a tea length dress for my wedding dress. I just went with a slimming a-line gown. No big full puffy ball gowns or a lot of rouching/pick ups bc they just overwhelmed my frame and didn't compliment my shape or size.

What online retailer are you thinking about buying from? I think Jessica McClintock has some tea length gowns on her website.
  • Alfred Angelo has ten short/cocktail length wedding dresses.  If you go to the website, you can refine the search by length, and they'll show up.  Some of them are really pretty.

  • I've seen shorter girls look fantastic in knee-length (or slightly shorter) J Crew bridesmaid dresses. Just get it in white and get some killer heels to make your legs look longer.
  • Davids Bridal has some beautiful tea lengths!
I'm shorter too (5 foot 3) and I went with a tea length :) it didn't make me look shorter, especially with heels, and a shorter veil!

    good luck!

I'm wearing Justin Alexander 8465 (PIB) and I'm 5'1. I (and my bridesmaids, MIL and consultant) all thought it actually made me look a little taller than the long sheath I tried on did. I also hits a bit lower than traditional tea length on me - not floor length either though. I'm also wearing at least a 3.5 inch heel but I always wear big heels so it's natural for me.

  • OMG 8daysaweek! that's the dress I wanted to buy and I had no idea that was a justin alexander dress. I found it on http://www.weddinggownswholesale.com/ and that's the retailer I was nervous about... It's one of those wholesalers in China. Has anyone bought from any of these with good luck?
I want that dress, where can I get it? :) good pick!

  • I'm 5' tall and my dress is knee length.  I'm having it made though, so that's not much help unless you are in Oklahoma.  lol

But anyway, I never really get the "This will make you look short."  Dude, I am FIVE FEET TALL... I AM short.  LOL  Why hide it?  Because whatever you do, will NOT hide it at all.  LMAO
