Has this ever happened to anyone else?

So.... I went to try on dresses last week. I had several dresses in mind. I was prepared with the style numbers of all my favorites. Well, first of all, they didn't have my size in a lot of dresses. No biggie: I'd just try on dresses that were similar.

Then I found my nemisis: STRAPLESS DRESSES.

I have really broad shoulders. I've been losing weight in my tummy, hips and thighs but my shoulders cannot be worked off (in fact, the more weight I lose, the more it looks like I'm wearing 80's style shoulder pads). I took pics of myself in my fav dresses looking like a linebacker.

I found a style for me, though, the wide v neck style and when I go back again I'll be sure to say NO MORE STRAPLESS. But has this ever happened to anyone else? Have you dwelled on a dress style only to find out it's completely unflattering?

  • I have very broad shoulders (yeah doesn't change no matter how much I lose), and narrow hips.  (Size 14 in tops and 8 in bottoms).

However I am wearing a strapless gown that has an a-line skirt.  If you'd love to have strapless, I'd suggest trying one on that has a full skirt to offset your wide shoulders.

Bonus about wide shoulders:  they make your waist look TINY!
  • I think most brides have in some way.  My daughter thought she wanted one of those Juliet style dresses, but when she put it on she said it made her look like one of the three dancing littlefairies in Sleeping Beauty Surprised

It really is a good idea to try on a bunch of different styles...cause you NEVER know.
My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • I have a large bust that is enough for three women! Trying on dresses was bittersweet because I'd find something I loved but it would not fit in the bust so I had to keep going up in sizes till..well....I looked like I was wearing a parachute!

Keep trying and you will find something you love!

  • I think 70-80% of brides end up in a completely different style than they first envisioned.  The dresses look very different on an actual person than they do on a model with the figure of a twelve-year-old boy.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
