Should I have a bra sewn in to my dress or wear a bra?

What did you do? I like the idea of having it sewn into my bra so I wouldn't worry about a strap in back being too tigh or showing. When I ordered my dress the seamstress did come out and tell me either way is fine but she deifnitely could sew one in since my top is very beaded and corseted.

Everything depends on your size, the style of your dress, the structure of your dress, and your personal preferences.

There isn't a generic answer that can be given. Talk to your seamstress and try on some undergarment options.

  • I originally planned to wear a corset and had the hardest time finding the perfect one to fit my shape.  After my first fitting last week my seamstress had me take it off and put the bra cups that would be sewn in instead, the change was amazing.  The dress fit much better without the corset!  She said that even though a corset is supposed to make you smaller, it can actually add up to three inches of material underneath your dress (depending on the material, boning, etc.) and I could see how it would after the fact.  I would go with bra cups!
