Bridesmaid dresses- long distance bride!

I currently live in Denver with my maid of honor living in Kansas City(where the wedding is being held)and the rest of the bridesmaids living in St Louis. How should I go about choosing dresses? I know what color I want the dresses to be but how do I handle getting the dresses, fittings, etc? I'd like all of them to individually choose the style that best suits them but want colors to match, etc.....HELP!

Re: Bridesmaid dresses- long distance bride!

  • I am in the same situation. I have basically decided, with my bridesmaids' help that they will get whatever J.Crew dress in a certain color/fabric choice. I have 5 bridesmaids who live in 3 different states (none of which are near me!). The other option was to do the same thing at David's Bridal, but none of the girls were a big fan of the dresses there. I trust them enough to buy the correct size and deal with alterations on their own, so I'm not doing much to oversee the whole thing.

  • You can choose 3-5 colors you like ,then let them rank them . So you  can choose color easily . so do the dress style , you'd better ask them to order the dress in the same store and fabric so that there will not difference in color :0

    Good luck!

Alfred Angelo is another great option- just pick a fabric, color and length and there are several great options. Their long chiffon dresses are especially lovely, and the price point is a bit closer to those at David's Bridal.

You can choose a designer and colour/fabric/length and then let your bridesmaids find a salon near them that carries the dress line.   Then they can each go shopping on their own and schedule fittings near where they live.

Make sure you tell them the length (i.e. just above the knee) before alterations.  If your bridesmaids are different heights, the hemlines may fall in very different places.

Also, bridal salons typically inflate the cost of alterations, so I'd suggest telling your ladies to find an independent seamstress with good recommendations.

ETA: Check with each bridesmaid for their budget before picking a dress line.  Then look up on the price guide here on the Knot to see if the line's fit in with what your BMs can afford to pay.  For example, the PP above was able to choose JCrew for her bridal party.  There's no way my girls could afford those.
