Question about selling an older dress???

When I got married in 2003 I thought that I was with my forever man and that I would be keeping my wedding dress to show my little girls like my mom showed me hers. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Now, I have a beautiful gown that I need to get rid of, but I am keep reading that older gowns do not sell. Especially not ones that are 10 years old. This gown is a classic style - it is white, strapless, with simple beading across the bodice and down the train. Is it even worth my time and effort to try to sell it? Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

</div><div>I too fall into this category...although mine is more like 19 years old lol it is an alfred angelo.</div><div>
</div><div>I have 4 girls...what I decided to do was because I have more than one daughter, I plan to hold onto mine and each can have pieces of it for their wedding dresses if made or a shawl, bolero, or even in their bouquets etc.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, some people use them for christening gowns.</div><div>My ex and I had an amicable divorce...I hold no ill will against him and know that he still means the world to my children so the memory of my dress is more important to them than it is to me.</div><div>
</div><div>I've seen older dreses for sale...I personally don't think they sell.  I have a brand new dress for sell and can't sell it for half what I paid, so if it were me again I'd hold onto it and save it for my kids.</div>

  • They can sell if you price them aggressively and they are still in very good condition.  I've seen them sell, but I'm talking for about $75.00- $100.00

I agree with cmgilpin...  They could sell...but you have to be realistic about what it's worth.
  • Some charities won't even take gowns that are older than about 5 years old, because they simply don't sell for enough money to make it worth what it costs the charity to handle them.

You might try a consignment shop if there is one in your area, or you can always try a local thrift store like Goodwill or Salvation Army -- they take anything -- then you can write it off on your taxes.

  • Thanks for the advice ladies. I live in an area that in Northern Arizona that is a little often the beaten path. We have a lot of rural folks up here who might love the dress, so I think I will try listing it on our local Craigslist and be willing to let ladies come try in on. If that does not work out, I will donate and take the tax credit. Thanks again for the suggestions. :)
