Bridesmaid Dress Length - HELP!

Our bridesmaids are going to be in short, chiffon Amsale dresses and the 5 bridesmaids range in height.  Is it more common to alter the hem of the dress a certain distance from the floor or say 2 inches above the knee on each girl?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Length - HELP!

  • I would have the dresses altered to the appropriate length on each girl.  Make sure that they are all comfortable with that length.  I think that it is more common to use one's own body as a measuring tool as opposed to measuring from the floor.

[QUOTE]I would not hem the dress to be the same length to the floor.  Alter it for each girl specifically.  No one is going to notice the difference.

  • Hemming from a set distance from the flooronly works for long dresses.  My one daughter is 5'11" and all legs her best friend is 5'2".  Now imagine how silly it would look for the two of them to have their dresses hemmed to the same distance from the floor.  The top of my daughter's knee would be at about the middle of her friend's thigh.
