Narrow or Wide lacing for corset

Has anyone gotten a Maggie Sottero or other brand that comes with a narrow and a wide ribbon for the corset?  My wedding consultant said that Maggie Sottero gowns just started coming with the two widths of ribbon.  I have no idea which would look better...

Anyone else have their corset dress come with two widths of ribbon?  Do you think it will even make much difference in the look?

Re: Narrow or Wide lacing for corset

  • Love your dress!  I am a Maggie bride also.  Mine hasn't come in yet so I am curious to see if mine has the two widths.  Sorry I can't help yet.

  • Does it come with both, or do you have to order one?  I bought my Maggie last year, and haven't really considered the width of the ribbon at all.  If you can, I'd talk to your consultant and see if they have both sizes of ribbon at the store.  You could try on the sample with both.  FWIW, I think mine has the wider ribbon, and it looks great.  It's one of those things I doubt anyone will notice, esp since the dresses have modesty panels.
  • I wore the Monalisa Royale and chose the thick lace. PIB

  • I didn't have a choice (ordered my dress in August of 2008), but this is the ribbon my Maggie came with, and I really like the look of this size ribbon:

  • Ooh, I hope mine comes with both!  I like the wide ribbon better, so at least I hope mine comes with that.
  • I am wearing the Milana too, but not sure which ribbon, I did receive both.  I think I've been doing my fittings in the narrow ribbon, it looks nice.

Hey, did you order the cap sleves that the dress is pictured with?  I  thought I did, but was just told this week that the shop I ordered from forgot to include the sleeves in the order and now it is too late for them to be made before my wedding in April.    Getting my dress has been a huge hassle and now I find this out, I am really set on the cap sleeves.

Let me know if you have the sleeves and are not using them, I'd be willing to take them off your hands!
  • I'm a Maggie lace-up corset bride...only came with one size lacing, but here's a question: Did you let your strings hang out, or did you tuck in the excess string?
  • Mine will be tucked in.  I don't like the look of the ribbon hanging out, especially with my dress (Melanie).

  • I already ordered it, and it automatically came with both sizes, the one in KristinandDan's photo and one twice as wide, if not wider.
The saleslady said Maggie JUST started sending two sizes ribbon out, but I thought she was just trying to make me feel lucky at my ability to choose or something.
Layla: I ordered cap sleeves because I had my heart set against strapless just b/c every wedding I've been to in the past 10 years, the bride has worn a strapless dress.  I think it was a mistake, because I had only tried it on w/out the cap sleeves and I can't move my arms AT ALL!  I had to have them altered even tighter to stay in place, but I haven't tried it on again yet.  Hopefully when they don't keep falling over my shoulder, they won't restrict my movement as much.
I am definitely tucking the lacing in, the dress is really ornate all over and doesn't need an extra bow on the back!

Thanks for everyone's input.  When she brought the dress out for my first fitting and asked about what size lacing I wanted, all I could think was, "Are you kidding me!?!?  Like I haven't had to make enough decisions about this darn wedding!"
