Bridesmaids Dresses - Please offer your advice!

We are currently in the process of looking for bridesmaids dresses.  My wedding colors are red, orange, and yellow (fall colors) - keep in mind this is not bright red, bright orange, or bright yellow, yet they are not all dark - just a good hue for fall time.  I have three ladies that will be standing behind me.  Originally, I was going to put one in red, one in orange, and one in yellow, however, I'm afraid that this is going to be TOO MUCH color.  My mom recently suggested that they wear brown dresses with red orange and yellow sashes.  I went on the David's Bridal website on the dress your wedding section, and did both options.  I can not make up my mind, and I have asked my three ladies what their opinion was on it.  They keep telling me that it is completely up to me - however, I thought I would ask everyone for advice to see if anyone else has ever dealt with a situation like this.  What do you think?  Red, orange and yellow dresses (and hope that it is not too much color) or brown dresses with red orange and yellow sashes (and hope that it is not too dull).

My flowers, I think, are going to be gerber daisies - but I have not completely decided on this yet...

Thanks in advance!

  • Personally, I'm not into the whole three different color thing. And I'm also not into the three different color sash thing either. I think you should pick one of the three colors, have your bridesmaids all wear a dress of one solid color, and have their flowers represent the other colors.

  • I had the same problem..were doin spring and our colors in the beginning were light purples light pinks and a light teal or green.. well after having my girls try stuff and stand by each other it was way to much. So we decided to do teal with pink shoes and pink flowers.

I think honestly, that sounds like way to much color. I would pick one color dress, whether that's brown or orange or red and just add some color in the flowers.

Have your bridesmaids in brown dresses with red, orange, and yellow flowers. It will look something like this.

  • Thank you so much for all of the advice so far!!  You are all wonderful!  There is so much to take in to consideration.  Honestly, I never thought about the shoes and flowers matching to add color to the dresses.  What a great idea!  I will talk with the ladies in my bridal party and see what they think about everybody's suggestions.  Thank you so much!  I'm still open to hearing any body else's opinion!

    Thank you :)
  • We're having an October wedding with a similar red/orange/yellow color palatte. I ended up choosing the David's Bridal bridesmaid color 'Truffle' for my girls to wear and their bouquets will be fall colored, similar to the photo above! So far their dresses are beautiful and I'm really happy with the choice!

  • Agree with chocolate brown dresses and bring color in through the flowers.

  • another vote for brown-- my friend did this a few years ago and it looked beautiful-- plus the brown dress was actually wearable again!

I agree with this totally. Those three colors will just be too much in the drama factor. Focus should be on you, not the competing colors. Pick one color and have all 3 colors in the flowers....
