after dress fitting - dress is so fitted!

did anyone else find that they had their strapless dress fitted and the middle like rib cage area is quite tight?  i get the dress isn't supposed to move, but i'm just wondering if its abnormal to be that tight?

Re: after dress fitting - dress is so fitted!

  • If "tight" means snug and not moving, that's relatively normal.  Most dresses weigh a good number of pounds, so they need something to anchor them, and the torso is a good place for that.  Not to mention that it's usually the area most girls want to make look small!

If "tight' means "I can't breathe", then no that isn't normal.  You should still be able to breathe easily and move relatively unrestricted (I wouldn't go trying toe touches or anything).  If it's actually uncomfortable or restricts your ability to breathe well, then that needs to be addressed.
  • i can breathe - it just takes two people to zip... it is heavily beaded on the top and quite heavy for a strapless dress. the seamstress told me it was fine and is how it needs to be.. ha, but it seems so snug! no back fat or weird clevage i think just the 2 people to zip makes me nervous :)

    thanks for your response!
  • It's pretty usual to take multiple people to get dresses on and off.  So long as you're comfortable and you don't have weird cleavage anywhere you'll be good :)

The important part is, can you sit down?

  • Yes!

I was actually a little worried about my first fitting because I had deep red marks on my rib cage after taking the dress off.  I asked them and they were all "Oh, no!  It's PERFECT!"  Okay.

About two hours after putting my dress on for the wedding, that thing was loose.  The dress will loosen up as you wear it.  I was terrified I'd need to wear something underneath the dress to keep the boning from digging in to me.  Seriously - it wasn't even a problem and by dinner, I was pulling it up.

    It'll be just fine!
  • As long as you can sit down and breathe and nothing is popping that shouldn't be popping, I think you're good! My seamstress gave me instructions on how to hold the dress in front of me for someone to zip it - position hands like they're on your hips (thumbs back, fingers forwards) but on the side of your ribs. Then I press back with my thumbs while whoever zips zips!

  • I had to have two people zip me into my dress.  One person squeezed at my waist area so that the person zipping the dress could get the zipper up a lot easier...this isn't unusual.

Like a PP said, you have only been in this dress maybe 2 or 3 times and have barely moved around.  Once in it and moving the dress will begin to loosen up.  As long as you can sit and breathe comfortably you are fine.
