Dyed Shoes ran at my wedding!!

I had an outdor wedding and needed low heels so I wouldn'd sink in th grass, but I really wanted blue shoes to match my BMs dress. I ended up purchasing Touch Ups dyeable shoes through my bridal store and sent them off to be dyed to match the dresses. The came out beautiful and were super comfortable, I didn't take them off all night. It wasn;t until the party was over and I was at my hotel room that I realized they had turned the bottoms of my toes blue! The dye came off some scrubbing and a few showers, but the toes of my shoes are all smudged and faded now and I really want to wear them again but don;t want blue toes every time! Has anyone else had this problem? I thought getting them dyed professionally would mean the color would last. And noone warned me about the shoes running. It wasn't like they got super wet either, maybe some slightly damp grass at some point and the normal wear throughout the night. Should  complain to my bridal sop or try to get a refund?

Re: Dyed Shoes ran at my wedding!!

  • I don't think that is uncommon with dyed shoes unless they are sprayed with a sealer.  I would ask the place that dyed them to fix the color smudges and then spray them with a sealer.
  • The store that dyed my shoes told me up front that they shouldn't get wet or the dye might run, which is why I was praying for no rain that day! They should have told you that ahead of time, but it is very common for dyed shoes to run.

  • This is common with dyed shoes, which is why they are more trouble than their worth.  They should have told you to spray them before wearing them.

  • I have heard of this happening before. If the bridal store you got them from gave you no warning of this happening I would go back to the store and complain.

I was told my the store that dyed my shoes, that if I didnt want them to run, then I had to spray them with a waterproof sealer. This was even if my feet just sweat in the shoes (eww)

Some brides don't waterproof them becasue they want to re-color them after, but the only way to prevent any color from running, is to use the waterproof sealer.

I'd do as PP have suggested, re-color them, and spray them with LOTS of waterproof sealer (i did about 10 coats!) before wearing them again.

The store should have told you, but I don't think they're necessarily at fault for not telling you and I wouldn't expect them  to refund or re-color without any additonal costs.
