Dress Bustles

Hello. I just went for my first fitting/alteration. The first part of it was great. I had bra cups added and my straps shortened. When it came down to how I wanted the bustle, things got tricky. I really like the double french bustle but it costs way to much. So I aked my seamstress to go back to the overbustle. It was $100 cheaper. The first time she did the overbustle she used three pins and it gathered up pretty. After trying all the other types, I asked her to go back to the overbustle and she did it differently than the first time and it wasn't gathered with three pin, it was evened out with 11 pins. This mean on my plain satin 4 foot train there will be 11 satin covered buttons down the back of my plain train in an upside down "v". Freaking out just a bit. I called the seamstress after I left and am going back on Saturday to try it again. Three buttons for a gathering at the back below a tied corsette top or eleven buttons....??? I am so confused!! What should I do? I never heard of so many buttons. The bustle looks nice and even but having 11 buttons showing on my train for the walk down the aisle...not so sure. HELP!!! Ideas? Suggestions?

Re: Dress Bustles

  • What does your dress look like?

  • My bustle has something like...20 buttons. It is a double layer bustle so it's a bit more complicated, but it's all in how the buttons are placed. I think if you dress was very plain then yes 11 buttons may look out of place, but if the dress is very ornate then the buttons may blend in. It would certainly help to see what your dress looks like to help you out more.

  • My dress is plain. It has no beading.
  • Thanks everyone. I ended up paying more for an underbustle. A french bustle not the double french but the regular one. I couldn't put 11 buttons on a plain train. Plus she had tried a 5 point overbustle but it did not look right and she refused to theo the three point because I am short and the sides would drag. So I paid more for the french bustle. I feel better about it now. I am only 19 days away from the wedding and just wanted the perfect bustle but hey, nothing is perfect and I am happy with what I went with. I am just plain nervous now. Thanks again for your help.
