Custom made wedding dresses from online sources in China?

Hi everyone :-)  Has anyone ever used www.milanoo.com or any other source online to purchase a custom made wedding dress?  I saw a monique lhuillier looking dress on there for only 150.  I went to a store by me to try on the real one to see if it even looks flattering on me and it does.  I love it.  Of course I don't want to pay 6500 bucks for a wedding dress.  I'm tempted to just buy this "knockoff" from this website that is based in China.  Has anyone had experience with doing this?  Thoughts about doing this?  Thanks :-)

  • You're right, my sister just said the same thing.  I know it won't be the same material and craftmasnship but I guess I was hoping it would be close? hehe  Thanks for replying, I'll check off the info on knock-off sites :-)   Cute pic of you and your hubby!
  • Try consignment stores or http://www.preownedweddingdresses.com/ to see if your dress is on there.
  • What is your time frame? Are you willing to purchase a sample, or used gown? What is your budget for a gown? I think its best to start with a budget. I set mine and then started looking at gowns within a preset range. When I fell in love with a dress much higher than my limit, I entered multiple raffle tickets at a bridal show to get $500 off knowing they had a sample sale. In the end the dress came in at the middle of what I was looking to spend.

  • One of my friend ordered one dress from a webiste named buyer100, also a chinese store. It seems ok , although not the same as the originals but similar to and the price is wonderful  :) . You can have a try .

  • Some people have luck... Some people  don't. If you don't and it turns out to be AWFUL can you afford to be out that money? (because, good luck trying to get that money back)

I don't think it's worth it. I think every bride THINKS about it for a second, but ultimately it's worth just doing the morally right thing and buying a real gown. Outlets, oncewed, and places like DB make gowns very reasonable. Like PP said, sample sales are great ways to go as well.
You don't have to spend a thousand bucks on a beautiful gown, but I suggest accepting that you might have to spend a couple hundred.

    GL OP!

  • I agree with PP some people have luck, some come back super crappy. I heard Milly Bridal does good work. I didnt look at the dress but if it doesnt have much detail, and you're not too picky, might work out for you. I'd DEFINITELY do your homework before you choose a vendor. and try to find one that takes pics of the dress in progress/keeps you updated.

just an sidenote** read as HORRORSTORY**, i bought my 1st dress from china (a different site than milanoo). the dress came back with holes running up the sides and the rouching was ALL THE WAY WRONG. would start off on right side as 2 or 3 folds, end up as 1 big fold on the left side. They would NOT let me return even though they have a return policy. said holes were "normal", I should get "used to it", to straight denying that the holes were even there. I had to dispute charge with my credit card. I finally got my $$$ back 6 months later...
