Red in June???

My favorite color is Red...has been all my life.  If it were up to me, I'd have chosen to get married in Oct when I could use red as my main color without a problem, but due to scheduling conflicts (and other preferences) we have set our wedding date for June.  My mom doesn't want me to use red

If I have a deep apple red for my BM dresses will it be silly and look silly?  We are getting married outside in a gazebo in a garden in the early evening.  I was thinking the accent color would be sliver or light yellow (only because I can't think of anything else!!)

Opinions and/or suggestions please!!!

  • It's fine.  Colors aren't limited by season.  My girls wore black in April.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • No, it won't look silly. Some friends of mine just got married about a month ago, and red was the color of the day.

There are a lot of great color combos that can make red seem more summery. Aqua and red has been a popular one lately. If you want more ideas, check out inspiration boards. One of my favorite sites for inspiration boards is The Perfect Palette.

  • I think red and light yellow would look great. You could use a brighter red if you didn't want it to seem like a fall color. Red can definitely be brightened up for a summer wedding. Don't feel like you're limited!
  • I think of red as an all year round color so I think it will work well.

  • Red is definitely an anytime color IMO.  I was in a wedding in July last year where our dresses were like a cherry red color, full length.  Her wedding colors were red and black, and even in the middle of summer it didn't matter.  I think people get carried away with matching colors to the season.  But clearly I'm biased on this issue since I got married July 30th and my girls wore black.  You could always pick a short dress, or tell your girls to pick any short dress in red, and that will make it more summer-like.

  • my main colour is red- its even in my dress, and im getting married in may.

so my advice is- dont worry about it. do what makes you happy.

  • I'm getting married in May next year and my girls are wearing black and carrying red flowers. I say go with whatever colors you want. Who cares about the season.

  • I was a BM in my friend's August wedding a few years ago, and her colors were red and gold. She's Chinese, and these are traditional wedding colors. It was beautiful!
  • Since you have already compromised on your wedding date, please don't compromise on the use of your favorite color in the wedding.  Red is a beautiful, vibrant color!  Go for it and remind mom (however delicately you need to) that she can choose colors for her wedding, and you'll choose colors for yours.

    Best of luck!
