Should I be concerned?

I ordered my dress on November 14th (just over a week ago).  I ordered from a shop with a good reputation and great customer service.  When I placed the order, the consultant told me the time frame for Maggie Sottero orders was about 4-5 months, so I was expecting my dress to come in in April.

I got a call from her a couple days later saying that the Maggie people were way ahead of schedule and I might get my dress before the end of the year.  I was surprised and had mixed feelings because while I know my family will be thrilled to see it while they visit for Christmas, I am unsure how I am going to pay the dress off in a month when I had budgeted for paying it off in 4 months.

Then I get a call this afternoon saying the dress has arrived.  REALLY???  It's been LESS THAN 10 DAYS!  Is this even possible?  Now I am worried that it's not really MY dress, it's a mixup or something someone else cancelled or something, and I am wondering if I should be skeptical and concerned about this (aside from the payment concerns).

I just don't understand how the lead time can go from estimated 4-5 months to ARRIVING in under 10 days.  I am waiting for a call back from my consultant to ask her about this, but in the meantime do you guys have any advice or suggestions of questions to ask her when I talk to her?

TIA!

  • I know that David's Bridal will tell girls that it takes months for a dress to get in to persuade them to buy it that day.  In actuality DB gets dresses in in a few weeks.  But, that's David's Bridal, so I don't know if that translates to other stores as well.

    Definitely follow Opal's advice.

  • Thanks, ladies.  I did hear back from my consultant, who was also surprised to hear it came in already.  She put me on hold while she went into the back room to look at it herself to make sure it was the dress I ordered, wasn't a mixup, etc.

She says it's brand new, never been worn, correct size, style, color, etc and apparently what happened was that MS made a huge push to ship as much as possible before the holidays in anticipation of their people taking vacations, etc, and an influx of new orders as people dress shop around the holidays.

She also relieved my concern about making payments and told me that she'd put a note on my file to allow us more time to pay it off since it came in so early.

I am going to go take a look at the dress myself soon, and will definitely check the tags, etc as you suggested just to be sure.  She's coming in on one of her days off for this appointment so I don't think she has anything to hide with it, but I think checking the tags to be sure is a good idea.

    Thanks again!  :)

  • I had my Mori Lee in 2 weeks. It was the brand new season, so I'm quite sure it hadnt been out long enough for a lot of girls to order.

I think it will be fine. Now how you pay for it I cant help. But congrats on your dress coming in.

  • I agree that you should check it out, make sure everything is kosher. After that, I would talk with them, because you should be able to still do a payment plan of some sort.

That makes sense about the rush...I got a couple of emails from MS recently with pics of her new designs.  Maybe they're just getting ready for the new designs.  Yay on the dress though!! I can't wait to order my Maggie Sottero!!

  • I had the same thing happen with another brand.  I think it has to do with the time of year as well.  My consultant said that they are all made in China, and during the month of February the Chinese celebrate the new year and don't work, so this time of year they work ahead a little.  I ordered mine and it was supposed to take 6 months but only took 6 days!  Lucky us!
  • Lucky! I'm glad they were able to work something out for you about the payments. I ordered my MS dress in late July and it's still not in. They said it should come in sometime in December, so I'm hoping it comes in early December. I can't wait to try it on again! Love MS dresses, they're all so pretty.

  • I would be VERY careful....even if it was in stock with MS under 10 days is WAY too fast. nothing ships and gets to the U.S.A from China that fast.
are they an authorized retailer? if they are maybe they had one that was being shipped to them for a different bride that canceled? be careful and dont feel intimidated to question, you are paying you have the right to ask.
    keep us posted!
  • I also had my Maggie come in early(although not quite as early as yours), I ordered it in July and it was here last week after they told me January. Listen to Opal, she always has the best advice. Definitely check for your certificate of authenticity and giving MS a call about it definitely wouldn't hurt. Good luck and I hope it all turns out OK for you!

What Maggie did you order BTW?
  • As far as paying for it goes, at least you know now not to go CRAZY on Black Friday.
  • Thanks ladies, the dress I ordered was Ambrosia in Alabaster.  I am going to go check it out next month (unfortunately they aren't close enough for me to squeeze in a trip before then).

The store IS an authorized retailer and one of the biggest ones in the area for MS.  My consultant was really helpful and said she'd put a note in my file so we don't have to try to pay it off all at once right away, but it's a moot point for me since after telling my dad about it, he's decided to pay it off for me.  :)

Glad to hear I have not been the only one with this experience, though, that makes me feel better.
