Unique wedding shoes!

Hey ladies, is anyone wearing some unique wedding shoes at the ceremony and reception? I'm wearing converse at the reception purple ones!.....would it be wierd to wear them at the ceremony too? U might see the tips of my toes as I walk. My mom is throwing a royal fit about me wearing converse for the ceremony....she thinks I should wear white flats. Thoughts? Opinions? :

Re: Unique wedding shoes!

  • I don't think they are appropriate footwear for a wedding.  I side with your mom.
  • I'm in the "no converse" boat... but, I am in that boat for reception shoes.  In my opinion, they are very "prom" and are so overdone.  A nice pair of flats would be the way to go.  They don't necessarily have to be white though. You could get a cute pair of sparkly or glittery flats.

Well first of all the idea isn't unique.  It's been done, and done to death.  Second of all it's really juvenile.  Converse with formal/semi-formal wear is incredibly middle school/early high school.  My eldest did it for homecoming her freshman year of high school.  She had recently had foot surgery and heels, sandals, or even flats were out while her feet healed.

Not to be rude but there are no unique ideas.

Honestly, I am in the "whatever they are just shoes, the world will not end if you don't wear dressy heels to your wedding" boat.

If converses are what you want to wear then wear them, because no one will really notice unless you point them out to everyone.  And I doubt that when you get up to the alter you are going to turn around, ask for your guests attention and quickly lift up your skirt and make sure everyone sees your shoes.

I don't think they are appropriate for the ceremony, but don't see a problem with them for some photos and the reception, especially if they fit your personality.

I'd try to compromise with your mom and wear cute flats for the ceremony (don't have to be white, but should match the formality of your dress), and whatever you want for the reception.

  • By "unique" I meant something other than white dressy heels....I guess I Should have clarified that. And I was just wanting some opinions to help me decide on which direction to go. This helps, thanks.
  • And I'm from a smaller town, so it's definitely not overdone here at all! It's actually very unheard of......maybe that's why I thought it was unique.
  • Do whatever is fun :) It's your wedding! And unless your parents are contributing financially, or unless it'll create some huge rift...I think shoes should be a pretty minor detail and you should go with what you want! I am trying to convince my fiance that hot pink or even fun blue shoes would be cool for me to wear :)

Converse have been done, and beated to death.

What about the sparkly Toms? the idea is becoming more popular but its not as more done as converse. And your mom might be more open to the idea.

I agree with PP that this is a very overdone trend. I wore hot pink kitten heels & it was a hit. Everyone loved that they weren't the same boring ivory heels.

To answer your question, I think it depends on where your ceremony is & the formality of the event. If your ceremony is in a place of worship, then absolutely not. If it is outdoors & you have a BBQ/picnic reception, then I think you can get away with it. I also like the idea of the sparkly TOMS. They're becoming quite popular.
  • Well, to be honest, it's YOUR wedding. If you want to wear Converse with your dress, by all means, do it! People have been wearing, flats, TOMS, Converse, whatever goes with their personality for years now as everyone else has said.

To me personally, no it doesn't fit a wedding and again, as everyone else has said, Converse can be a bit juvenile. I like the formality of weddings so I'm wearing heels at mine. It isn't unique but it's definitely timeless. & you can always personalize your heels however you see fit.

But again, I say do what you want :)
