Not really wedding related.... opinions on a dress.

Hello ladies!

I bought this dress from modcloth

http://www.modcloth.com/shop/dresses/honors-minutes-seconds-dress#reviews_header

I was thinking of wearing maybe to the rehearsal dinner, and then to a nice dinner on our honeymoon.

I got it in the mail today, and I love the color, the neckline, and the lace on the top, but the skirt is kind of iffy.  I almost feel like it's too formal, but in a weird way.  Like I'm going to prom or something.

Our rehearsal dinner is not really formal.  We're probably going to have it at a not-too-fancy italian restaurant.  Does the long skirt make this too formal?

My mom suggested hemming it to a short length.  I'm worried that would kill the whole charm of the dress.  A part of me wondered about some kind of high-low hemline, but I'm not sure how easy that is for seamstresses, and if it too might kill the charm of the dress.

Any thoughts?

  • Oh, pretty!  I love modcloth dresses. A few thoughts:

It doesn't look too formal to me, but I haven't seen this one in person.

I don't think a hi-low would be difficult for a seamstress if that's what you want.

I would keep it the way it is. Getting married events are one of the few times you have every right to be a little overdressed. If I really thought it was too formal, I'd save it for the honeymoon and find something else for the rehearsal. I don't think I could bear to cut it.

  • Not too much at all. I love this dress but I think a high-low would be super cute too. (I do have a thing for high-lows right now though)

The skirt is less sheer in person, which I think gives it that more formal feel.  I was going for more of a dressy summer dress.  Still so pretty though.

You're probably right... the skirt should stay the way it is.  It's nice to hear that it's still okay to wear it for the rehearsal if I want though.  You're right, nothing wrong with a bride being a little dressy even if it is as the Spaghetti Warehouse.  ;)

Me too... I'm kind of obsessed with high-lows, so apart of me thinks it would be really cute, and the other part of me thinks I'll regret it later.

  • I think it is absolutely gorgeous, and even if it is a tad more formal than you expected you will definitely stand out (in a good way) at your wedding rehearsal dinner :)

  • I definitely think it looks like a breezy summer maxi dress, not too formal at all.  I would leave it as is and not change it at all.

Also, I think that as the bride, you have license to be slightly more dressed up for all wedding-related things, including the RD.
