Bridesmaid's dress :(

Got my bridesmaid dresses in and one of them is way too small! I'm not sure what we're going to do!  Has anyone had to have a dress made bigger? How did it turn out?

Re: Bridesmaid's dress :(

  • How small?  My sister's dress was a size too small - mostly in the hips and had to have it taken out.  They actually had to take in the the chest after they let it out and it worked out fine.
  • What does the dress look like?  This happened to one of my bridesmaids and we were able to order her a larger size.

One issue is that samples in stores can be stretched out by so many people trying them on.

  • Its about two sizes too small.  When she ordered it they gave her a dress that was close to the style to try on cause they didn't have one of this dress in her size. She ordered it a size bigger than what she thought she would need since she has bigger hips and thought it would be easier to make it smaller if need be. The dress does have a little extra fabric so it can be let out. I'm just not sure it will be enough. And I don't think we have time to order another one since it took these 3 months to get here and my wedding is next month.

  • Take it to a seamstress and see.  They could put in a corset back, or maybe you could rush order a shawl or something from the company in the right fabric and color so there's extra to use for panels.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • That's a great idea. Thanks!

  • yup same thing here and no support from Moments to Treasure Bridal in Mukilteo WA.  They didn't return my call for a day and then told me the would get back to me after she talked to the other lady who ordered the dress and measured my step daughter and then 6 days after my wedding they called and said I should have let them alter the dress and that my step daughter must have gain weight... no she didn't and if she had gained weight it wouldn't be in 6 weeks needed to be let out 2 inches on each side and 2 inches of fabric in the middle added.  See below complaint to Better Business Bureau and Attorney General.  So if you know of anyone wanting to go to a bridal store don't refer them to Moments to treasure.

    Explanation of complaint:
Bridesmaid dress for my daughter and step daughter. I went to Moments to Treasure Bridal because my step daughter was having trouble getting a dress to fit for my wedding to her dad and she lives in KS not in WA so I had flown her up here for the weekend to get a dress. I went to Moments to Treasure so they could measure her and fit her in to a proper dress as we were having trouble finding a dress to fit due to her size and the amount of time we had in a weekend. We finally agreed on a dress after the girls tried on many dresses that day. Tina at Moments to treasure was asked to measure the girls to ensure that they get fitted properly. Tina tried to get my duaghter to order a dress that was a so tight she couldn't hardly breathe, so I told her I wanted the dresses ordered bigger not smaller. It's easier to take a dress in than to add to it.( I had a girlfriend there with me and she states she remembers this being said also). Tina measured my step daughter and told me she was a size 16. I took her word for that and that is how the dress was ordered. The dresses were in around the first week in July but since my step daughter lives in KS and works she could not be here until 2 days prior to wedding (another reason why we wanted to get her measured so she could be a close as possible to her size. We she arrived Wed night at 11:30 pm I took her to the place we chose for alterations she tried on the dress it was approx 2 sizes too small for her. Alterations had to let both sides out approx 2 inches on each side and add fabric that didn't fully match with the dress down the middle by the zipper as the dress would not even begin to zip up. Prior to having this done, I called Moments to Treasure no one returned my call until late that evening when I was out of town picking up some other stuff for my wedding. Not Tina but the other lady at their shop (other owner) she said that she couldn't do anything for me with out Talking to Tina. She said she didn't have anyohter dress that would work either. So I had the dress altered due to time frame as I was getting Married on Saturday and this was now Thursday evening. My step daughter cried and was stressed as well as I was due to the short amount of time until the wedding, I couldn't wait on Tina to return my call. Well glad I didn't wait as Tina didn't call me until last Thursday, 6 days after my wedding. She told me it was my fault dress was too small that I signed off on her being a size 16 (which is true I did sign off on that because that is what Tina told me she was and Tina measured her). After much going back and forth Tina told me I should have let them do the alterations even though they never returned my call and never gave me the option when I spoke with them to begin with and then they took until last Thursday to return my call. Tina was very arguementive that it was my fault and that it didn't fit or my step daughter gained alot weight with in a small amount of time that is why the dress didn't fit. I told her I would turn over to better business bureau and she go ahead that she would only offer 1/2 of the alteration fees. I don't feel that is this even comes close to the stress that I and my step daughter had to endure to the lack of a dress that fit properly after Tina measured her and told us her size and when I had ask have dresses order larger not same size. Also the dress hooks for the attachable straps one was broke and the other not in the right place.
  • The thing that gets me is my bridesmaid has lost a bunch of weight since the dress was ordered and its still too small!

  • Is the shop going to help you at all or are you like me just stuck with all the cost of alterations and stress of getting it done in time for your wedding?
  • The shop isn't going to help, which I didn't think they would since they have a no return policy for any reason. On the up side I have a family member who is pretty sure she can fix the dress!! Smile
