I'm feeling really nervous about the wedding day...

There are plenty of things for me to worry about but right now, the thing I'm really worrying about are the bridesmaid dresses. The dresses the bridesmaids chose are http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Satin-Strapless-Ball-Gown-with-Sweetheart-Neckline-84066_Bridal-Party-Bridesmaids-Long-Bridesmaid-Dresses in shades of wisteria for 2 and iris for the MOH.
You see how they look on that page, but the ones the bridesmaids have received look so different....a much deeper purple for the wisteria, and the fabrics are actually a lot shinier than the website photo looks.
Because I'm having to rely on the internet for looking at everything to do with the wedding, it's actually making me feel wretched about how much of it will actually look like the way I'd like it to look. I can't see anything firsthand because I'm in England, the wedding's meant to be in Ohio, where my fiance and his family are, and I'm not allowed into the US until the fiance visa is sorted and then I have to get it all done within 90 days of arriving....

  • I'm sure they will look beautiful. I've had friends that wore that dress and love it. Really comfortable and flattering. I know the visa thing is stressful, but it'll all work out. Just relax. You're already on a really good track!

So, two big questions.  First, where's your fiance in all of this?  Is he helping his sister plan the wedding?  Second and relatedly, what's preventing you (or what prevented you, if the dresses are already bought and finalized) from saying, "You know, I don't really care for those bridesmaids dresses; they're not really the colors or material I was envisioning.  Let's keep looking."

You say you feel battered down; did they purchase the dresses over your objections?  If so, you have a much bigger problem than an unstylish wedding, because either your fiance isn't interested in your opinions (red flag), or your fiance isn't taking your side against his family (other red flag).  Or, if you didn't object, or didn't object strongly, maybe this is just an issue of you needing some practice asserting yourself in your relationship, but even then, if you can't make yourself heard, I really feel like you should be attending couples counseling before you get married so that you can learn to communicate so that you're both listening to each other.

Have you talked to your fiance about how you're feeling?  You sound quite unhappy; I would certainly hope that you have, and that he's taking your concerns seriously.

ETA: I responded to your original post, not your edited one, and the original is no longer quoted.  Sorry.  I hope the advice is still helpful.
  • I wore that same dress for my friend's wedding and when I got it thought it was way shinier than I expected. It didn't matter in the pictures and on the actual day. It will look better than you think, especially when you have the right lighting and are looking at things in person, not over the internet. MilkDuds is right, things do look drastically different online, which is why it's important to get fabric samples and things to see what it will actually look like. (The dress I wore to my friends wedding was "Marine" and online looks kind of royal blue, but in person is navy.)

The 2 of my 4 bridesmaids who have gone to try on dresses both picked that one as their favorite (I'm letting them pick their own dresses in the right length, fabric, color) because it's super flattering on both of them. They both love the pockets.

  • My bridesmaids are also wearing wisteria from david's bridal. I told them to pick a color from the purple family and that is what they picked. It looks great on all 7 of them. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm sure they will look great, the dress is very pretty.
  • My maids are wearing wisteria, too!

It seems to be a flattering color on many people.
