Bridesmaids dresses really similar to my wedding dress?

Hi girls, 

Got a quick question. Is it weird if the bridesmaid's dresses are very similar in style to the bride's dress? 

I'm going for an eclectic/vintage look for my bridesmaids, and trying to avoid making them look like clones... I wanted to let them express their personal styles and be comfortable in their dresses. I've asked them to show me their top 3 dresses, so I could pick from those. They're on board with that.

The thing is, they keep coming up with dresses that are fairly similar to my dress. I'm not sure if I have a problem with it or not yet. Obviously mine will be white not purple, so that makes a difference.

My dress that I have already bought: (I'll be adding a floor length skirt of the same color, tied with a bow. And taking the skirt off for the reception and dancing.)

And here's an example of what a bridesmaid has come up with: 

I had told them before I thought chiffon and touches of lace would be pretty, to give them a starting out point. But they have so far all come up with complete lace dresses really similar to mine. (They're super cute, so it's understandable...)

If you saw those dresses in a wedding, would you be turned off or think it was odd that they're so similar? Should I say something to steer them another way? Maybe it's just me over thinking things again... Lol.

I wouldn't be turned off, I would just think you all had very good taste (I love the dresses!). When a cousin of mine got married she wore a white bridesmaid dress for her wedding dress and had the BMs wear the the same dress but purple instead. The dress itself really suited the bride and her taste in fashion and having all the girls in the same dress didn't take away from how beautiful and radiant the bride looked.

And by the sounds of it you're dress won't be identical to the BM so I don't think it's anything you need to worry about

I don't have a good answer for you but I want the purple dress...where did you find it?  Super cute!

I think its really cute when bridesmaids dresses somewhat mirror the style of the bride's dresses. Both the styles you put a picture of in your original post are adorable while also being sophisticated and elegant--nothing too flashy. Trust me, everyones eyes will be on the girl in the gorgeous white dress--you

Because there will be subtle differences, like the neckline, I think it'd look great. My wedding dress and my bm dresses are very similar with the same neckline, except theirs is short. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you like it, then pick it.

I love it.  The BM dress though you may want to think about the length.  It looks a little short in the photos (especially if you're having a church wedding).

The BM dress is like my Adrianna Papell from Macy's, Bloomingdales, Neimans, Lord & Taylor, etc. It is reduced right now as the purple is a winter color. It is not too short for me, but I was thrilled it came short as I am really short. Most everything else I own had to be hemmed. As PP said, it is similar to your wedding dress, so it is your call. It would be just unbelievably cute, IMO.

I agree with Liatris.  As a guest, I would think. "oh, cute... they wanted to match". As a bride, there is no way I'd do it.

I actually love your dress and would like to know where you got it too!  haha  Do they come in different colors?! 

Honestly I would not have even thought the BMs dresses were so close they seemed like they were "copying" or anything.  They look really great together!
