Wedding in 10 days and NO DRESS! HELP!!!!

Hi all,

I am in a bit of a pickle!  My wedding is in about ten days (July 19th, monday) in south florida.  It is a small beach affair and I thought I could get away with ordering a dress online (for very little money).  Well the dress came today and it is AWFUL!  I literally laughed out loud when I tried it on.  It is completely beyond repair/alteration.  What can I do?  Where can I get a dress (on a budget, no less) in a week???  I am willing to beg and borrow... not quite ready to steal. ;) Please help!

  • David's Bridal usually has lots of dresses in stock, and most of their dresses are pretty cheap.  Or you could go to a department store and see what they have.  With ten days, there's no time to order anything online, your best bet is to shop in person.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Oh no, sorry to hear.  I'd call up stores in your area and see if they have any sample dresses which you can walk out on the day of your visit.  Good luck!

  • I would look around at local department stores. If you are doing an informal beach wedding then you can get by on just about any white dress. It would be cheap and no alterations would be necessary.
  • Ditto pp. Do you have a Jessica McClintock store in a mall near you? If so, the usually have some cute destination dresses in there for decent prices.
  • BCBG also has nice white evening dresses that you can try on in store and wear as a wedding dress...

  • Also remember that there's no rule that you HAVE to wear white.  So if you're having trouble finding a white dress, it's fine to wear a color.  Lots of brides do, even without short notice.

  • White House Black Market may have something! I saw lots of cute dresses there last week.

  • I just was in a store today that has a lot of cash and carry dresses, check your area and see if this is a possibility!

You may find something at JCrew----they have a lot of simple bridal looks----the problem is finding a store that carries them since much of that is done online.  They may be able to "rush" a look to their store for you.

Otherwise, there are a ton of white summer dresses on sale right now.  Go to larger, better department stores like Macy's, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Saks (I don't know what the "Florida" version of some of these might be), or check out some of the boutique shops for something flowy and different.

You will find something for sure but remember---your attitude will most reflect your beauty that day----focus on how you feel IN the dress, rather than how the dress itself looks!
  • Nordstrom should have something - a girl I know found a dress (as you described) there just last week!  GL!

  • oh no. i agree with PP suggestions. where did you order your dress from?
  • I am in the same boat, but my probem was my dress did not fit across my boobs and upper back and cannot be let out. I ordered three dresses from Nordstroms online, am going to David's tomorrow, and am dieting like crazy. Also, praying.
Good luck to you and letus know what happens.

  • I can tell you that David's Bridal might be your best bet... my step-daughter got married last November and we found an off the rack gorgeous gown for $99! It was originally over $1,000. I have a brand new, strapless, knee length Calvin Klein dress that I can offer to you. Size 12 I believe. Needs dry cleaning. But it does sound like you could use some help. Let me know ASAP before I change my mind. LOL!
  • Try JCrew, White House Black Market, or call local bridal stores and ask about sample dresses that may be purchased in your size. They may have samples for sale. As a plus they can be less expensive.

    Good luck!
  • Ditto David's Bridal and Jessica McClintock- also check your department stores- lots of cute dresses in white out at the moment, you may find just what you're looking for!
